Phifer Incorporated Weaving Loom Mechanic (Fixer) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

JOB SUMMARY:

The Weaving Support Fixer position is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment used to support a battery of looms designed to weave yarn into cloth. Management may assign additional duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Will set up, adjust, and repair looms to weave cloth of specified quality and design using knowledge of loom functions, weaving diagrams and manuals by reading and performing written instructions

  • Will oil and grease moving parts of friction surfaces of mechanical equipment, according to specified procedures and oral instructions by reading and performing written instructions

  • Will change setup of looms to weave different patterns or different types of yarn

  • Will respond to fixer requests and assist other fixers in completing tasks

ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Assessed on the TABE in reading and mathematics at an 8th grade equivalency or higher or have a silver national career readiness certificate

  • Wiesen Mechanical Comprehensive Test required for this position

  • Prefer 2 years verifiable mechanical experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.

  • Prefer knowledge of mechanical operations

  • Prefer knowledge of weaving operations

  • Prefer prior weaving and mechanical experience in the weaving department

  • Hands on mechanical test and interview will be required for this position.
