Select Genetics Hatchery Maintenance in Turlock, California

Responsible for priority repairs and maintenance in a timely and efficient manner in our facility. Utilize experience with electrical, motor controls, mechanical, forklift, welding equipment, electric drill, electric meter, wrenches, and screwdrivers to lead the hatchery maintenance team with day-to-day operations in the hatchery and ensure the up-keep of our equipment. Must be able to perform hands-on maintenance and display strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity working with hatchery equipment.

The Maintenance Supervisor:

  • Conducts frequent checks around the hatchery, monitoring the hatchers and incubators and the temperatures and pressures in the hallways;

  • Manages Building Maintenance employees, ensuring employees follow the schedule for making rounds in the hatchery to address issues as soon as they arise as well as ensuring a fair weekend on-call rotation;

  • Ensures Maintenance is always present during production times and checks with department leads for any mechanical issues and personally makes rounds to check machinery;

  • Addresses any issue that arises, and prioritizes repairs when necessary while managing subordinates in a way that efficiently uses their time and skills and prioritizes team responsibilities that need attention around the hatchery for efficient operations;

  • Orders mechanical parts when necessary utilizing a company credit card;

  • Ensures completion of day-to-day maintenance of the facility and equipment;

  • Takes care of any kind of system failures including lighting systems, electrical systems, environmental control systems and heating system failures.

  • Maintenance carries out all directives following the Company’s policies and applicable laws, including scheduling, assigning, and performing work;

  • Leads, trains, motivates, disciplines and supervises the Maintenance employees with the objective of building and maintaining a high performing unit that meets or exceeds production goals and ensure the authority and responsibility for each position is defined and understood;

  • Works within tight deadlines on multiple projects, and may work long hours, including weekends and weekend on-call rotations;

  • Performs work that requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and the use of a variety of tools and equipment including, but not limited to a forklift, welding equipment, electric drill, electric meter, wrenches, and screwdrivers.

  • Adheres to the management of all of the company’s policies and regulations for biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety.

  • Exhibits safe work habits and use of safety equipment and PPE when necessary.

  • Understands this description is not exhaustive of all tasks and may include other duties and projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

     

     

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • One year minimum of experience in mechanical and electrical repairs required.

  • Previous experience leading and managing employees required.

  • Knowledge and experience in animal husbandry and welfare preferred.

  • Specific knowledge of turkeys and turkey breedi desired.

  • Ability to read and interpret relevant technical, industry, and government regulations and legislation and demonstrate excellent English verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to walk and move constantly, use hands for the entire work shift, lift more than 60 lbs, push/pull up to 60 lbs. occasionally; bend, stoop and squat, grip small objects, and be capable of repeated actions in order to complete job duties;

  • Ability to work in environment that is exposed to dust, humidity, heat and cold; and to have excellent hand-eye coordination for repairing the machines.

  • Has to have good business judgment, make quick decisions and work under presser.

  • . Be able to walk and stand for long periods on different surfaces including concrete.

  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.

  • Does not own or operate around backyard poultry or swine operations off duty.

  • A valid California Driver’s License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record required.

  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills a plus

    Additional required skills and abilities include the ability to successfully handle multiple demands simultaneously; strong time management and organizational skills; attention to detail; the ability to communicate and interact productively with all levels of employees, the ability to work under pressure; To be successful in this position, the candidate must be energetic, flexible, and have determination.

    Successful completion of a drug screen and work achievement verification required.
