Job Summary:

  • Integrated Solutions Modeling & Architecture (ISMA) directorate develops, evaluates, and implements architectures solutions for our customers’ largest, most complex challenges across all operational domains.

  • We define and develop novel solutions to emerging operational needs, push the boundaries of innovation to establish next generation mission solutions, and chart a course for Raytheon and our customers you will be proud to look back on.

  • Supporting this mission are teams driving flexible integration solutions crossing all product areas (sensors, effectors, command and control, logistics and operations), developing tools and methods to evaluate system level studies and visualization based on customer requirements.

  • The Airborne Kill Chain AI/ML Section Leader will be responsible for leading a large section of approximately 15-20 engineers who support airborne kill chain programs.

  • These programs conduct a wide variety of multi-disciplinary research, development, and production tasks consisting of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning research, performance meta-model development, analysis for airborne kill chains and air-to-air combat systems, software-in-the-loop testing, software production and quality assurance.

  • The section lead will conduct regular communication and coordination with external customers, industry associates, subcontractors, and warfighter tactics specialists.

  • Experience with high-fidelity simulations is required.

  • Solid leadership skills and outstanding communication skills is required.

  • This role entails significant industry collaboration and high customer visibility.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Lead and participate in trade studies, research, development, and implementation of machine learning-based solutions to support warfighter capability needs.

  • Lead and participate in research into advanced neural network techniques to solve real-world warfighter challenges.

  • Lead and participate in development and implementation of model-based solutions to support mission trade studies and performance simulations and ensure they meet defined requirements and functions.

  • Lead and participate in performance engineering practices and procedures to evaluate work across a wide range of intriguing computational problems.

  • Extensive interaction with Program Managers, Chief Engineers, and Technical SMEs.

  • Extensive interface with the customer community on a regular basis to share status, issues, and address programmatic concerns.

  • Oversee the direct line management activities for the section including communication, performance management, career development, and talent acquisition.

  • Collaborate and communicate with other sections and teams.

  • Support department and directorate level initiatives.

  • Ensure employee compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Section Leader duties account for approximately 10-20% of the employee’s time.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of Engineering experience OR an advanced degree in STEM and 6 years of Engineering experience.

  • Ability and/or experience leading engineering teams.

  • An active and in-scope secret or top-secret US security clearance

  • Experience in modeling and simulation and/or weapon system performance.

  • Experience in meta-modeling and AI/ML

  • Experience in personal leadership and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience in coordination and diplomacy skills in collaborating cross-industry, including subcontractors, our customers and with the warfighter.

  • Experience in the Defense industry required.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering is preferred.

  • Experience with AI/ML or neural networks strongly preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
