The EO Machinist is responsible for manufacturing, installing and repairing of mechanical assemblies and projects. Work includes engineering prototyping, field service, engineering installations, testing, certification, and repair of returned materials. The technician will be able to perform complex setups, troubleshoot and proficiently operate all machines in a production facility or all computer numerical control (CNC) with minimal supervision as well as grinding or jig bore machine families. This position requires thorough knowledge of all machine speeds, feeds, materials, cutter tool geometry and safe operating practices. The technician will participate in the assembly and modification of engineering prototype sub-assemblies, final assemblies and systems per engineering drawings and/or work instructions.

The candidate will ensure that all work performed is properly and completely documented and ready for inspection and provide recommendations and collaboration in solving hardware integration issues with mid and upper-level engineering and leadership. They will comply with the company’s FOD program, tool control program and all safety regulations.

  • Replacement of mechanical and machined parts.

  • Sets up and operates Precision Tool Room Lathes in the fabrication of prototype parts.

  • Identifying, repairing and replacing damage hardware.

  • Set up and CNC machines to meet specified requirements.

  • Recognize failures and isolate problems and suggest appropriate corrective action.

  • Operates equipment and fixtures/gages.

  • Communicates and interacts with engineering and support personnel such as, design engineers, tool engineers and maintenance personnel.

  • Promote a collaborative environment improving the development of parts and tooling that are functional as well as producible.

  • Fills out engineering test reports.

  • Ensure RMS and Customer property is properly tracked and maintained.

  • Keeping supervisor appraised of all unresolved and/or potential problems that would negatively affect schedules or quality.

  • Providing support to the engineering development team on all assignments and assist other departments with miscellaneous assignments as instructed by direct supervision.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a High School Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a m inimum of 8 years relevant experience.

  • CNC machining skills

  • Experience with manufacturing methods and processes.

  • Understanding of fabrication processes

  • Experience with mechanical fasteners.

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos, detailed blueprints, and other similar authorized drawings and documents.

  • Experience working in an engineering lab environment.

  • Aerospace manufacturing experience.

  • Ability to fabricate special tooling to complete one-of-a-kind tasking.

  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze and evaluate complex mechanical systems, subsystems, modules, components, fixtures.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and schedules.
