About the Role

Support the execution of Magna Powertrain or MPT’s Global Purchasing Process as applicable to each program ensuring the synergies of the commodity strategies amongst all different customer applications in the purchasing group. Direct and coordinate all Purchasing Operations activities between suppliers and all areas of organization i.e., Strategic Purchasing, Program Managers, Supplier Quality Development and/or other divisional designates.

Your Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and control activities related to the Purchasing Operations function with the objective of optimizing the total cost of purchases, while supporting strategic sourcing in selecting the optimal capable source to support the program in all areas.

• Purchasing lead for Customer Application within Core team

• Generate, distribute, and follow up on all RFQ’s, as per the Global Purchasing Process.

• Analyze quotes from suppliers & costs from potential suppliers and prepare for management review.

• Prepare all quote and detail data to analyze a make/buy divisional decision.

• Assist in development of a strategic supply chain.

• Assist in analysis of new trends in market & technology.

• Supports quote process to customer and works with Strategic Purchasing at early stage of Program definition.

• Responsible to process design changes requests and be a part of the change management team until PPAP.

• Report the supplier launch readiness to program management on a regular base.

• Participate in simultaneous engineering meeting and forward status and open issues to purchasing team.

• Organize Commercial and Technical workshops with suppliers in co-operation with Strategic Commodity Management and Supplier Quality Development or SQD.

• Track the cost model for Purchased components and Materials as applicable

• Negotiates the best possible price.

• Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost.

• Responsible for implementing Purchasing Operations process and procedures at multiple Divisions as applicable to new programs.

• Maintain supplier relationships that are both productive and mutually beneficial while continually searching for and renegotiating cost savings.

• Ensure suppliers respond appropriately to the program management requirements including issues of delivery, cost, or quality up to PPAP.

• Oversees all activities related to the Purchasing Operations process as applicable to any specific program.

• Work cooperatively with peers to implement consistent policies, procedures, strategies, and reporting.

• Communicate the necessary information to MPT management to assist in decision making and strategy formulation.

• Responsible for promoting and seeking excellence in all aspects of business.

• Creates a positive work environment by demonstrating and sharing functional/technical knowledge.

• Assigns the highest priority to customer satisfaction and Program Management objectives while meeting commitments to achieve business objectives.

• Performs tasks and responsibilities detailed in MPT’s IATF policies, procedures, and work instructions.

• Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT’s Environmental Management System (EMS).

Who we are looking for

• Bachelor’s Degree required with a business or technical emphasis.

• Strategic thinker and implementer of effective tactical plans.

• 3 – 5 years of experience, relevant experience within the automotive industry preferred.

• Minimum three (3) years of experience in Purchasing or related field within a manufacturing facility.

Your preferred qualifications

• SAP ERP experience desired but not mandatory.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office

• Excellent skills and experience in contract negotiation and price negotiation in a manufacturing environment.
