SERV Behavioral Health System Residential Counselor - Youth I/DD in Trenton, New Jersey

SERV, a well-established leader in behavioral healthcare in New Jersey, supports people with mental illness and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities as they achieve greater independence and life satisfaction through a wide range of services.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Residential Counselor – Youth I/DD provides therapeutic residential support to youths with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities. The successful candidate will assist with daily living activities and provide behavioral support in a group home setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Orients newly admitted clients

  • Plans, leads and supervises client activities

  • Provides positive behavioral supports on a daily basis

  • Provides direct supervision in a group home setting

  • Provides input into assessments, conferences and treatment planning

  • Facilitates community integration through focused recreational activities

  • Provides pre-vocational skills training as indicated based on client needs

  • Collects and records data, and completes all required documentation

  • Provides transportation as needed and accompanies clients to and from appointments

  • Responsible for ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment and adhering to all safety standards, Federal and State regulations, and corporate policies

    EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working with I/DD individuals in a group setting, OR

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field unrelated to social work/psychology and six (6) months’ experience working with I/DD individuals in a group setting, OR

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology or related field

  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

  • Ability to demonstrate respect for children/adolescents and their families
