Guthrie Dir, Emergency Medical Svcs - Emergency Med Health Serv - Full Time in Towanda, Pennsylvania

Summary

The EMS Director is responsible for planning, implementing policies, evaluating systems and coordinating the ambulance services and working closely with other local, regional and state EMS services and agencies. This position will oversee the operation of all EMS programs, the management of all fiscal resources, the supervision of all EMS caregivers, and the provision of EMS services. The work includes responsibilities for the selection of equipment and vehicles and for assuring that EMS personnel are properly trained in current best practices in EMS. The work shall also include ensuring that the service is adequately staffed such that can accommodate coverage in event of the loss of availability of an EMT.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years acute care management/leadership experience required. Five (5) years of advanced life support required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required preferred Registered Nurse.

Master’s degree in healthcare administration or related healthcare field preferred

Five years clinical Paramedic experience with at least five years’ experience in EMS management

Licenses

Require current driver’s license. Current minimum EMT-P certification with the ability to obtain reciprocity in NY and PA. National Incident management system classes required for the position. If no PA approved Emergency Maintains clinical competencies and medical command.

Essential Functions

  1. Overall managerial responsibility for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program and responsibility for formulating EMS processes with the development and implementation of technical policies and procedures.

  2. Ensures patient and caregiver safety in all areas of operations.

  3. Cooperates with Federal, State, and other local departments/agencies in search, rescue, and medical emergency situations.

  4. Directs and evaluates all clinical activities including care plan development, service level determination, and complaint management

  5. Prepares budget and ensures compliance with allocated funding.

  6. Responds to emergency calls, taking command and control responsibilities as necessary

  7. Responds to non-emergency calls to assist the public and other response agencies, taking appropriate action to minimize the loss of life and/or property

  8. Oversee staffing issues to include recruitment, evaluations, discipline and/or coaching as necessary, education, training and certification, scheduling, and other areas of personnel management.

  9. Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA laws and regulations.

  10. Maintain current knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations related to aspects of EMS.

  11. Maintain positive working relationships with hospitals, medical professionals and staff, law enforcement, public works, fire, and other agencies in Bradford County and surrounding areas

  12. Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

  13. Works in conjunction with other departments to work collaboratively in the updating and maintenance of Emergency Operations Plans for Guthrie locations and Bradford County.

  14. Attends seminars and training sessions as required by position

  15. Reviews and updates department personnel job descriptions, including certification requirements and continuing education tracking for review by human resources

  16. Performs other duties as assigned
