Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Organizational Unit is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
This Sr. Supervisor of Substation Test will be in the Substation Construction and Maintenance (SC&M) division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D). The successful candidate will provide direct supervision to Test Technician personnel and plan and execute daily work assignments which would include capital, Independent System Operator (ISO) compliance, and repair of electrical equipment.
The Substation Sr. Supervisor will be responsible for interpreting, training, enforcing compliance of corporate safety policies, rules, and procedures; applying department and human resource policies and procedures in the areas of employee discipline, coaching and mentoring, staffing, and equal opportunity for bargaining unit personnel (including IBEW) under his or her supervision.
Responsibilities may include
Planning scheduling, programming and executing daily work assignments in a safe and productive manner.
Interpreting, training, and enforcing compliance of all corporate policies, safety rules and procedures, System Operating Bulletins, and Substation Construction and Maintenance (SC&M) Safety Strategy, including maintaining and updating Test records in SAP, and resolving labor inquiries and disputes to the Bargaining Unit Agreement.
Researching, ordering and receiving materials, tools and equipment for substation maintenance, test and construction activities, including creating capital and expense work orders for repair and replacement of substation equipment.
Remaining on-call after hours and on weekends to provide supervision, direction and dispatch test crew(s) and resources for substation emergencies.
Performing accounting and tracking functions for record keeping, reports, budgets, crew training, and timekeeping.
Coaching, mentoring, and developing employees, responding to grievances, assigning training, supporting change initiatives, and ensuring safety compliance.
Maintaining records and providing training in the processing and handling of hazardous materials and waste as it pertains to Test activities.
Using computers to perform administrative duties, such as record-keeping, reports, tracking budgets and ensuring the completion of crew training.
Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation
Must possess strong verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skill.
Four or more years of combined experience in a Supervising function or as a Test Technician.
Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Driver’s License.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Typically possesses three or more years of experience as a Test Technician and/or a Test Supervising Technician.
Demonstrated experience working with relay testing procedures, substation construction test methods, Substation Operation Manual (SOM), System Operating Bulletins, Accident Prevention Manual (APM), tools, vehicles, and materials.
Demonstrated experience interfacing with project managers to develop programs for installing capital work.
Demonstrated experience working with the IBEW contract to resolve labor inquiries, disputes, and process grievances.
Demonstrated experience working with Capital and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) budgets.
Demonstrated experience using PC applications, including SAP, Lotus Notes, and Microsoft Word and Excel, Protection Web, Aspen, etc
Demonstrated experience leading or supervising employees performing skilled craft functions in the operation, construction, testing and maintenance of substations.
Demonstrated experience in the construction, maintenance, test and operations of substations.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
