Canadian Tire Program Manager, IT Modernization in Toronto, Ontario

What you’ll do

The Delivery Manager role is focused on serving the needs of the pod and supporting the pod in achieving its goals. The Delivery Manager will continuously evolve the Agile capabilities of the team, focus on team dynamics, remove impediments to success, and coordinate dependencies across Pods. The Delivery Manager will support the Product Leadership and Scrum Masters to enable the team to meet the customer-focused outcomes. As part of the Delivery Excellence Chapter, the Delivery Manager will contribute to the Chapter’s body of knowledge and best practices, and as a senior member of the Chapter will coach and mentor other scrum masters.

  • Leads a group of Agile squads (Pod) to deliver assigned work.

  • Advises and coaches the Pod on Agile and Lean values, practices, and processes. Ensures that the Agile pod is staffed, effective, productive, and focused on the sprint goals and customer outcomes.

  • Clears the runway so that the Pod can meet the quarterly objectives, removes blockers that can not be resolved by the squad-level Scrum Masters. They will find resources and garner support to address critical roadblocks. The Delivery Manager will support issues that exceed the capability of a Scrum Master to address.

  • Identifies dependencies with other Pods and determines how to manage those dependencies without impacting the progress of the Pod. Likewise, works with other Pods to deliver features on which they are dependent. Creates and maintains the Pod Release Board.

  • Creates metrics and tools or ensure adoption of the Agile COE metrics and tools, to measure success and recognize progress of the squads within the Pod. Has the ability to identify and utilize beneficial metrics, interpreting them and course correcting.

  • Facilitates, participates, and collaborates in cross functional planning sessions to raise milestones, issues, dependencies, etc.

  • Provides a high level of relationship management, resolving conflicts and enabling discussions between stakeholders, management, co-workers and Pod members with varied interests.

  • Rigorously facilitates communication and collaboration inside and outside the Pod. Fosters close cooperation across all Pod members and encourages cross-training and support of each other.

  • As part of the Delivery Excellence Chapter, the Delivery Manager contributes to agile management best practices within the enterprise to help maintain and promote agile management practices and professionalism.

  • Supports management to report progress of the program.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience delivering complex projects/programs within an Agile framework.

  • Experience with legacy system modernization, mainframe modernization and mainframe code (C and PL1) is a strong asset.

  • Certified Scrum Practitioner (CSM) or Certified Scrum Coach (CSC) or equivalent formal education in Agile is an asset.

  • Exceptional delivery management skills within a matrixed environment

  • SAFe 6 certification is an asset.

  • Delivery or software development background. Education in Computer Science or similar is preferred.

  • Team Leadership through influence – Can foster and develop positive team dynamics and elevates through coaching.

  • Strong communication and organization skills – able to propagate information promptly, clearly, and unambiguously to multiple audiences.

  • Strong technical background required. You have experience working with multidisciplinary squads in a fast-paced environment.

  • Skilled in building relationships and navigating through organizational layers.

  • Ability to scale thinking and analysis from strategic to detail and vice versa.

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure. (Azure Fundamentals in 2+ disciplines) considered an asset.

  • Experience with Java considered an asset.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills required.

  • Knowledge of Retail Business/Technology is an asset.
