Key Accountabilities:

  • Develops and implements IT infrastructure & platform strategies for BMO desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile, storage, server, mainframe, and network strategies for the Bank

  • Develops strategic technology roadmaps and plans futuristic infrastructure solutions based on technical and business needs to support anticipated business strategies and organizational growth.

  • Designs, builds / installs, tests, maintains, monitors and upgrades infrastructure such as computing platforms, servers and networks.

  • Designs, develops, tests, implements and maintains computer/network systems developed internally and/or in conjunction with outside vendor. Ensures work aligns to standards.

  • Designs/engineers system-operating capacity (such as bandwidth, disk space, storage, and CPU utilization) to ensure high availability and performance of end-user applications and systems. Ensure works aligns to standards.

  • Completes analysis and designs viable IT infrastructure & platform solutions for business problems of varying complexity both independently and in a team setting.

  • Is accountable for overall system/technology performance; monitors production, outputs, and services to ensure that SLAs and other quality metrics are being met.

  • Ensures reliable and secure computing and communications capabilities to run the business software while enabling the lowest operational cost/highest availability options.

  • Ensures that infrastructure solutions are scalable, flexible, and supportable, is fully monitored and is as standardized and automated as possible.

  • Performs capacity workload modeling and availability analysis for a variety of platforms and environments.

  • Implements disaster recovery procedures and troubleshoots any network and connectivity issues in a timely manner, with minimal disruption to normal functioning.

  • Works with stakeholders and recommend infrastructure solutions based on engineering requirements. Ensures that systems and infrastructure align with business value and are technically sound and well-integrated.

  • Provides immediate response to critical connectivity and access issues to evaluate solutions, coordinate recovery and ensure resolution. On call and/or shift duty may be required.

  • Designs, implements, and supports technology components to meet business and technical requirements, including diagnosing problems on components

  • Plans and manages the effort to assist project teams/business customers to evaluate, develop, implement and support system infrastructure components.

  • Improves program/project processes in order to ensure the best possible deliverable outcome to improve overall efficiency and improve the bank.

  • Analyze the output of system and application vulnerability scanning

  • Supports the execution of key improvement initiatives using data-driven insights to deliver positive financial and customer outcomes.

  • Identifies and defines new process and / or system improvement opportunities.

  • Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies to influence the design process.

  • Embraces and promotes new processes and methodologies, including emerging technologies and agile as required, with flexibility to align to unique requirements.

  • Understands and manages scope of complexity that exists across business value, technology, and interaction models.

  • Develops, recommends, and employs productivity aids in all aspects of assignments to accelerate delivery.

  • Provides feedback and recommendations on requirements based on health check results.

  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen the capability at BMO, such as: sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks across technology.

  • Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities & individual learning.

Qualifications:

Core Knowledge:

  • Generally 2-4 years of work experience in IT or business environment and/or B.S./B.A. in computer science, engineering, information systems, math or business

  • Understands infrastructure technologies and technical direction

  • Possesses analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to analyze a component or components of a process to optimize system functionality.

  • Understands current and future technical platforms from the hardware, operating system, security, and system services layers.

  • Ability to manage independently in specific technology area or across multiple technology areas, to perform troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and solution implementation.

  • Relevant IT infrastructure & platform knowledge in one or more of the following Engineering domains:

  • Unified Communications

  • Workplace Technology

  • Mainframe

  • Storage

  • Distributed/server

  • Networking

  • Knowledgeable and experienced with:

  • Operations/run requirements

  • Packaging and distribution of the application

  • Dev/Ops, deployment environments

  • Virtualization, server design, administration and troubleshooting.

  • Functional and technical behavior of the middle ware and data layers

  • Impact of design decisions to infrastructure components

  • Hardware fault diagnosis and management to resolution

  • Capacity management for all Infrastructure

  • Technology and solution design and configuration
