What you’ll be doing

The Associate Vice President (AVP), HR Business Partner for Personal Banking - Banking Centres is a comprehensive leader responsible for developing and/or interpreting HR programs, policies, and services to translate business needs into integrated HR solutions that fully leverage people management, employee capability and organizational development. The role adaptively provides new solutions to achieve results, reinforcing the appropriate application of HR policies while adhering to legislative requirements. The Associate Vice President (AVP), HR Business Partner applies an ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it to a wide variety of audiences, anticipating and planning for future human capability needs through the analysis and interpretation of workforce information. The role performs as a strategic leader and HR expert to executives and leaders in all areas of HR in providing value add counsel and strategies to support the business. The role leads a team of HR professionals across multiple geographies, and actively supports the VP, Human Resources Advisory, in concert with other HR leaders, in developing and executing the overall HR strategies, goals and business plans.

You will be responsible to deliver the Human Resource strategy which supports the banks’ strategic imperative to deliver consistent and sustainable performance over the long term. You will translate business needs into integrated Human Resource solutions to fully leverage leadership, employee capability and organizational development within Personal Banking. You will provide strategic advice and proactive support to senior leadership in all areas of Human Resources including talent acquisition, talent management, total rewards and employee relations.

How you’ll succeed

  • Thought leadership - Develop and/or steward strategic frameworks and principles that support CIBC’s strategy and priorities, which are further informed by leading market practices. Challenge the status quo with future focused practices/models aligned to achieving our longer term aspirations. Understand client business goals, objectives, and operating environment, develops and implements a LOB human resource plan to enable the business in meeting their goals and objectives.

  • HR planning and integration - Anticipate and plan for future human capability needs by analyzing and interpreting workforce information, reviewing results of employee surveys, and discussing top of mind issues and concerns with business and HR leaders. Plans and coordinates the effective delivery of annual HR initiatives related to Talent Management, Goals, Performance & Success (GPS) and Total Rewards. Incorporate change management methodology into HR planning and integration practices (i.e. stakeholder and impact analysis, implementation and communication plan) to ensure a smooth transition towards the desired end state.

  • Relationship Management - Manage senior leader and business partner expectations and shape understanding, demonstrate quick thinking and the ability to pivot with confidence. Partner with the Talent Development, Resourcing and Labour and Employee Relations Consultants in the achievement of strategic, business and financial plans.

  • HR program delivery - Identify, plan and lead the development and implementation of appropriate people management strategies, programs and initiatives to address specific business and corporate initiatives. Work with the leadership team to ensure HR requirements are met and to help build a working environment conducive to high levels of employee commitment and engagement. Supports organization development efforts by partnering with HR Centres of Expertise on large scale organization design projects, talent management reviews, performance management initiatives and other enterprise-wide HR development efforts.

  • Performance management and capability development - Help business leaders identify and resolve performance management issues including assistance with the escalation of issues to the Employee Relations, Policy and Governance team. Partner with Talent Development to identify developmental requirements and support the implementation of learning solutions to build capabilities. Provide Personal Banking – Banking Centre leaders with guidelines, procedures and available tools from the HR Centres of Expertise to facilitate the delivery of all HR programs.

  • People Leadership - Act as role model, within own HR group, create team spirit and champion CIBC’s values, strategies and core programs in a manner which models CIBC’s leadership philosophy. Lead, develop and motivate a team of HR Business Partners. Provide leadership and effective management of business unit staff to influence employee commitment to the organization, to the team and to their job. Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, emphasizing employee strengths, and clarifying performance expectations. Ensure team members receive the appropriate coaching and support they need to be successful and for effective delivery of professional HR practices, processes, methods and tools consistent with CIBC’s values, policy architecture and internal and external governance requirements. Identify and resolve compliance issues to ensure all employees adhere to CIBC policies and controls.
