Overview The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for either a Lecturer (non-tenure-track) or Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Criminal Justice. This is a full-time position. The position is located in Tooele, Utah. We particularly seek applications from individuals with criminal justice teaching experience at the university level and experience working in corrections.

This is a nine-month teaching-centered appointment anchored with USU's criminal justice program in Tooele, beginning August, 2024. The anticipated teaching load is four courses per semester (4/4). The area of teaching specialization for this position is open. The successful candidate will oversee the internship program for the USU criminal justice program and will assist in the administration of the Corrections Leadership Training program within the criminal justice program. The candidate will be expected to teach courses to Statewide students via the Connect course delivery format, which provides in-person instruction for Tooele students and synchronous virtual instruction for all other Statewide and Logan students. The successful candidate will also be expected to deliver asynchronous online courses to all USU students using the Canvas platform. Instruction of evening courses may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching lower and upper-division courses in the criminal justice program
  • Advising undergraduate students
  • Providing service to the department, the university, and the profession
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications To be considered as a Lecturer:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • An MA/MS in criminal justice/criminology or a closely related social science discipline at the time of appointment.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses in criminal justice
  • Teaching experience with distance education technology and delivery modalities
  • Experience working in corrections.

To be considered as an Assistant Professor:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • One of the following at the time of appointment:
  • a PhD in criminal justice/criminology or a closely related social science discipline
  • A Juris Doctorate (JD) and a Masters degree in criminal justice/criminology or a closely related social science discipline
  • a JD and demonstrated relevant experience in criminal justice/criminology.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses in criminal justice
  • Teaching experience with distance education technology
  • A record of scholarly activity
  • Experience working in corrections.
