About the Position: Serves as Munitions Handler (Fork Lift Operator) performing tasks peculiar to the receipt, storage, issue and shipment of ammunition. Assists in conducting inspections of all types of ammunition, missiles and similar materials. Responsibilities Load and unload cargo, segregating items according to condition code, lot numbers and quantity; store, unpack, pack, mark, un-palletize and palletize ammunition. Operate an electric and/or gasoline-powered forklift capable of lifting up to 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches to transport, transfer, and stack and/or unstack ammunition and components. Select and tag surveillance samples in storage for inspection. Prepare shipping and receiving reports and locator records. Assist in preparing surveillance inspections on all types of ammunition, ammunition components and explosives in accordance with inspection schedules, instructions and procedures established. Assist in selecting, identifying and opening ammunition boxes and containers to perform ammunition inspections. Assist in preparing inspection sheets, ammunition condition reports and other related records. Conduct cyclic inspection on lightning protection system (LPS) for all structures that maintain and store explosives. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Munitions Handler (Fork Lift Operator) without more than normal supervision. Performing warehouse work involving receiving, storing, or shipping supplies and materials. Check shipping documents to identify supplies; and stocked, arranged or rotated items according to specific instructions. Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklifts to unload and/or move loads. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts - The work is performed on hard surfaces, and in areas that require standing, stooping, and bending in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of fork lift trucks. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire. Heavy lifting required up to 45 lbs. Working Conditions - Works indoors and outdoors, subject to all kinds of weather conditions, in areas where matches, cigarette lighters and smoking are strictly prohibited. Subject to injury, dismemberment and/or loss of life from explosions while inspecting hazardous ammunition. Wearing of protective clothing such as gloves and safety shoes is required, and wearing of other protective clothing may be required. Education Additional Information This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 (a) and (c) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
