ProMedica Health System RN / Registered Nurse - Surgery - Cardiac Perfusion Services - Autotransfusionist Specialist - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio

ProMedica Toledo Hospital is one of the largest acute-care facilities in the region. Position Summary:

The Autotransfusion Specialist functions as a member of Cardiac Perfusion Services. These team members are responsible for the safe implementation and operation of cell salvage equipment during surgical procedures known to experience significant blood loss. Cell salvage is the process by which blood from the surgical field is collected, filtered, and washed to produce a high quality autologous blood product for re-infusion to the patient. This helps preserve the patients native starting hematocrit and prevents unnecessary blood bank transfusions and the inherent risks and complications that can arise from donor blood. The Autotransfusionist chooses the appropriate equipment for each procedure, sets up and operates the cell salvage machine, and prepares the processed red blood cells for safe re-infusion to the patient. Other peri-operative blood management duties include processing platelet rich plasma and operating point of care coagulation monitoring devices. Standards of individual performance, skills, and clinical competence must be maintained according to hospital and department policies and procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: BSN required or be able to obtain within a 3 year time period

Skills: Must be able to successfully complete the hospital/unit professional nurse orientation. Responsible for maintenance of competency and licensure requirements. Communicates in an effective and professional manner with all members of multidisciplinary team

Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience

License / Certification: Must be a registered nurse and licensed to practice in the State of Ohio. Basic Life Support (BLS)

Physical and Position Requirements

Must be able to be on-site within 30 minutes while on call Must be able to move about hospital and between workstations; and prolonged periods of standing Must be able to lift medium materials (50lb max), non-material handling; continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching; frequent pushing, pulling and squatting Must be able to read and speak the English language
