Japan Payments team is looking for a highly motivated, customer-obsessed Senior UX designer to lead the effort in making Amazon the most loved place to use our payment products in Japan.

You are a senior designer with 8+ years of experience working on real products that people use every day. You are an organized self-starter that can deal with ambiguity and are always on the lookout for ways to improve the customer experience. You are an excellent collaborator and have no problem presenting–and defending–your ideas to other designers, product managers, and company leaders. You understand the value of user testing and prototyping, and thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. Above all you are passionate about solving real problems for real people through research, design, and iteration.

We expect ideal candidate to be a self-starter, marrying together proven experience in UX and visual design. We are looking for someone with a roll-up-your-sleeves, entrepreneurial approach to solving complex problems. The role will involve working collaboratively with engineering, product management and executive leadership, while leading design throughout the development lifecycle.

Key job responsibilities

  • UX Design for JP Payment Products for Amazon Japan

  • Create user-centered designs by understanding business requirements, voice of the customer, user journeys, customer feedback, and usability findings.

  • Quickly and iteratively create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high fidelity mockups and detailed UI and visual design specifications to Product and Engineering teams, as well as business stakeholders and executive leadership.

  • Create branding guidelines and design standardization across all of the team's products.

  • Incorporate customer feedback, technical constraints, and usability findings into design.

  • Develop and maintain detailed information architecture and design specifications.

  • Performing metrics analysis post-launch to inform design/UX optimization efforts.

A day in the life

You will work with other members of the design and product teams to create interfaces that are attractive, useful, and usable. You will use market analysis, feedback, site metrics, and usability findings to tailor your designs to the customer in order to best solve their problems. You will be responsible for developing your ideas from concept to completion, presenting them to stakeholders for approval, and working directly with developers to bring them to life.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience

  • Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and interaction design, user-centered design process, as well as strong knowledge of user experience principles and techniques.

  • Experience designing applications with multiple user touch points with specialty in web design.

  • Experience with customer research and usability testing

  • Portfolio of work demonstrating breadth and depth in UX and visual design. This should also include approach and process.

  • Professional proficiency in high-fidelity mockup and prototyping tools such as Figma, Framer or equivalent.

  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate a bias for action in a fast-paced, often ambiguous environment.

  • Relentless desire for innovation while balancing user model with implementation model.

  • Business level with English language skills.

  • Intermediate level with Japanese language skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • • Expertise in UX performance optimization using qualitative and quantitative assessment.

  • • UX design experience across global markets.

  • • In addition to expertise in web, working knowledge in design for mobile and other devices.

  • • Ability to prototype in modern front-end code such as CSS, HTML, and JavaScript.

  • • Solid written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present a strong rationale for design decisions.

  • • Experience with managing or mentoring other designers
