About the Division

The MSIM Operations group supports the equity, fixed income, and alternative businesses for Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM), providing middle-office services including portfolio manager support, client services(including client reporting), portfolio transition management, market registration, product data maintenance and performance and attribution analysis. Morgan Stanley Investment management has outsourced certain investment operations functions to State Street Bank and Trust Company globally.

About the Role

As part of the Morgan Stanley Investment Management Operations group, this role in Tokyo Operations is to provide high quality Client Services to internal/external stakeholders. Client Service includes but not limited to, the support in implementation of new business/products, the client communication support on the changes in global/regional market or regulations, troubleshooting in day-to-day of the accounts managed oversea. Oversight of State Street as the outsourcing agent for middle/back-office tasks and liaison with trust banks are equally responsible for the team. The size of the team is 5 staffs. Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a point of contact for internal stakeholders (e.g., Sales, Portfolio Specialists, Marketing, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and global teams) and external stakeholders (e.g., Trust banks, Counterparties, Sub-advisory clients).
  • Oversight of trade processing, corporate actions, pricing, and reconciliation.
  • Close liaison with Sales (Pension, Institutional, and Intermediary) and Clients to manage the expectations.
  • Provide/implement recommendations for process improvements, including workflow and technology, working proactively with counterparts on a global basis to ensure consistency.
  • Instruct non-STP transactions or orders for Tokyo managed accounts.
  • Ensuring clear communication of timelines and requirements to all parties (trust banks/custodians).
  • Support of new mandates, terminations, and transitions among stakeholders.
  • Review new client's IMA and Guidelines to provide operational support as needed.
  • Account setup on all systems for Tokyo managed accounts.
  • Support SSAE18 and audit related activities.

_Qualifications, Skills & Requirements_

  • Self-motivated and continuous positive working attitude.
  • Have an intellectual curiosity to new businesses, schemes, and products.
  • High degree of independence in the performance.
  • Strong leadership, resilience, and teamwork.
  • Basic knowledge of buy-side business, regulations, and schemes.
  • Must have strong communication skill in Japanese (Native) and English (Fluent).
  • Ability to understand and articulate complex situations concisely in both Japanese and English.
  • Communicate effectively across multiple cultural and hierarchical lines within the firm.
  • Ability to identify problems or potential risks and escalate appropriately in a timely manner.
  • Computer literacy (Excel, Word, Power Point, PDF etc.)
  • Strong skills in time management, multi-tasks, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Asset management or trust bank related experiences in Operations are plus.
  • Sell side Ops(Interaction with Front Office, Trade Support or Settlement related) experience is also plus.
  • Knowledge of Investment Management Business related Japanese Laws and regulations.
  • Japanese Investment Trust fund accounting related skill and knowledge.
  • Effective communicator within the Global Operations in a conference call.
  • Experience in a client facing function or a client service mindset is preferred.
  • ITM(Investment Trust Management or Toshin) related reporting/documentation related experiences.
