Microsoft Corporation Datacenter Integration Lead, Northeast Asia in Tokyo, Japan

Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. The Integration and Technical Infrastructure (ITIM) lead will oversee the operational activities of the Northeast Asia ITIM team and vendors with the APAC Regional Director on Integration objectives and key results. This includes the oversight of lease and build contracting, design, execution, procurement and installation activities with safety at the forefront of mind. He/She will manage both internal and external stakeholders on the program alignment, while focusing on safety, cost, schedule and quality in all aspects of the DC execution lifecycle.

The ITIM Lead will oversee and take accountability for the team to produce and manage project plans as well as executing major milestones i.e. (Early Access, Beneficial Use, Corporate Network Live, Security CX Complete, Telecom Infrastructure Fit Out Complete, Lockdown, Colo Go Live) and for the financial approval and management function.

This position can be based in Tokyo (or other locations in NEA can be considered) and will have responsibility of leading DCI scope of work for multiple campuses across Northeast Asia. As part of the wider Asia Pacific Integration team, the resource will help drive regional initiatives run through our global program team.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the DC ITIM Lead include, but are not limited to:

  • Will be a relentless advocate for managing a safe work site, supporting the implementation of the High-Risk Activity (HRA) program and work with the Construction PM and GC groups/landlord to deliver trade collaboration methods to improve safe working and co-ordination of the job sites.

  • Coordinating internal Microsoft scope, resource efforts, requirements, and schedules with those of the general contractor/landlord, vendors, and suppliers to ensure a smooth and timely handover of the constructed Data Centre facility and capacity to the Microsoft Operations team and Business Groups.

  • Work with the Data Center Engineering (DCE) team and supporting specialty consultants to review, improve and execute the Basis of Design (BOD).

  • Coordination of telecom materials procurement, telecoms installation, security systems installation, FFE procurement and installation.

  • Coordination of the design, procurement, installation and turn up of the facility Corporate Network (Corpnet).

  • In cooperation with the Construction Lead, this position aligns metro wide delivery strategies to local team objectives, business processes, vendor management strategies, and cross-group collaboration efforts.

  • Align with the APAC Integration Lead and APAC Lease construction lead to agree delivery strategies across multiple sites and manage a continuous improvement program that will result in a lean project delivery approach.

  • Identifying and managing stakeholder dependencies and construction deliverables and handoffs for/with Microsoft Security (DCPS), Microsoft IT (MSIT), Datacenter Construction Integration - Network Engineering (DCI-NE), Networking and Telephony.

  • The NEA Lead will work for the APAC Integration Director to set and execute sub-regional strategies and drive key initiatives to improve time to market.

  • Will lead a team of experienced ITIM’s managing delivery of the integration scope of works across multiple metros within the NEA sub-region. Communication:

  • Regularly reviews cost and KPI metrics, invoices, process/policy communications to partners.

  • Coordinate meetings and activities of vendors, cost managers, and integration of lessons learned in support of the Data Center Integration & Construction Project Management Teams.

  • Attend scheduled owner/architect/contractor (OAC) and other project meetings, and report, as necessary.

  • Report Project Progress on scope, schedule, and budget in relation to the Integration scope and packages as required for the Northeast Asia Region.

  • Challenge and remove barriers by working with others around a shared need or customer benefit.

  • Ability to maintain a broader perspective, identify and evaluate opportunities to enhance the business through cross-group collaboration.

  • Incorporate diverse perspectives to thoroughly address complex business issues.

  • Ability to align teams' expectations with organizational/ inter-departmental goals through clear prioritization.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Construction Management, or Electrical Trade qualified candidate with a strong/demonstrated background in the delivery of large-scale complex projects.

  • 10+ years’ experience in telecom infrastructure project delivery, or construction related project management in Japan.

  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, key initiatives, and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Cross-group collaborator and influencer across teams and organizations with proven success in participating in cross-functional teams to deliver on key projects.

  • Been an effective people manager – demonstrated experience of leading/growing a team

  • High personal standard to deliver a thoughtful, polished, and quality work product.
