POSITION SUMMARY

Deliver design and project management services for assigned brand projects on an established schedule within approved budget and to standards agreed to with the Client.

This position will be hired on a Consultancy basis.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Owners, Development, Brand and Regional Operational / Continental leaders. Provide constant and consistent communication, cooperation and collaboration with ownership, regional teams and properties.

  • Deliver Managed projects on schedule, within budget and to the quality standards required by the brand.

  • Maintain a punch and acceptance turn-over process utilizing the new build ground support to accept and turn-over the buildings to operations

  • Be the single point of responsibility for managing the project process within Global Design,and provide monthly forecasts and monthly status reports.

  • Review and monitor internal labor and project costs to ensure current costs are in alignment with proposed budgets.

  • Develop project schedules, track and review construction documents.

  • Understand and communicate transaction details in an internal and external kick-off meeting for every project

  • Identify, work to resolve and communicate project-related issues and resolutions.

  • Manage multiple projects, which are medium to large in size and complexity, to schedule and budget.

  • Make decisions on a project basis, as an innovative problem solver, taking risks working with the design team, Owner, Brand and Operations.

  • Manage internal and external resources for project.

  • Working with the department Business Director(s) development of the Technical Services Agreement (TSA) or project cost for Development funded projects / discipline and phase of project.

  • Lead / direct activities in the early formulation and feasibility stages of a project.

  • Market and actively support the products and services provided by the MI Global Design group.

  • Represent the division/MI, both internally and externally, on projects to senior representatives.

  • Make presentations to senior leaders and owners to gain their approval of the recommendations.

  • Provide leadership, management direction and guidance to relevant internal and external team members to ensure that they have the necessary information to complete their responsibilities.

  • Collaborate with business unit leaders to market and sell the assigned brand to key new and existing owners/franchisees to expand brand recognition and promote development opportunities.

  • Advice and update owners and franchisees regarding brand design direction and initiatives. Implement such initiatives on a project-by-project basis; working with Global Strategies group within Global Design.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Key Skills/Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years progressive experience in hotel design and project management; 6 years’ experience in the design and project management of hospitality projects

  • Knowledgeable about innovation and trends both inside and outside of industry

  • Strong communications skills in Japanese and English (written and verbal)

  • Excellent business acumen

  • Complex problem solving & creative solution skills

  • Ability to build strong working relationships across departments & teams

  • Ability to negotiate and be flexible when appropriate

  • Excellent organizational skills & ability to manage multiple priorities & resources

  • Knowledgeable about all aspects of hospitality design and operations

  • Be able to take a project from design through the construction process, start to finish and opened a minimum of 5 hotels

  • Strong listening skills, hearing what customers and co-workers are trying to communicate in verbal, written and all forms of communication

  • Must be able to build and maintain strong relationships with all levels throughout Marriott International and our Development partners

  • Must be responsive to the customers’ needs

  • Must be able to mentor and provide support to foster an environment of empowerment

  • Must be experienced in lodging design, construction and project / process management

  • Experience in managing the development of scopes of work, financial and scheduling management associated with the construction of multiple lodging properties and owner relations

  • Must have the ability to solve problems that will meet the expectations of the brands and the guests, while maintaining sound economic judgment for the Owner, and Marriott International

Education and Professional Certification:

  • Significant skills in hotel Architecture, Construction and Project Management or related design discipline or equivalent experience.
