WHAT’S THE JOB?

Outland has been planting trees since 1985 and plant over 40 million trees annually across Canada. We work for the best clients in the industry and can provide a variety of work across the country.

As a remote Cook, you will play a vital role in the operation of a tree planting camp. You are responsible for all aspects of food production from meal planning, safe food preparation and cleanliness of the remote kitchen and remote dining areas. Must be available from the beginning of May until mid July for Ontario positions. You must be comfortable working in remote bush camp settings. Tree planting camps are often hours away from any town, with no to limited cell reception and Wi-Fi. You must be comfortable sleeping in a tent and living in the outdoors.

Your work will include:

  • Handling, preparation, production, and timely service of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in accordance with approved methods and standards.

  • Preparing meals according to budget guidelines.

  • Preparing adequate quantities of the menu choices by following all production quotas set.

  • Following proper storage and rotation of all food supplies.

  • Preparing and sending food orders

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Applicants must have a current Food Safe certificate.

  • Current Level 1 First Aid certificate is an asset.

  • Camp cooking experience is an asset.

  • High standards in maintaining a clean and organized Kitchen.

  • Be able to handle the following physical demands:

  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs

  • Climb ladders or stairs.

  • Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time.

  • Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands.

  • Perform work with arms at full length.

  • Work with arms above shoulder height.

Additional Information

Work Schedule and Remuneration:

Tree planting bush cooks work an average 4-5 days on with 1 day off in a remote bush camp setting. Wages are paid per day. Specific pay details are discussed at the interview phase
