Willamette Dental Oral Surgeon in Tigard, Oregon

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMFS) is a dental specialist who supports Willamette Dental Group’s evidence based treatment philosophy, mission, vision and core values by diagnosing and treating diseases that involve the head, face, jaw, neck and sinuses. The OMFS extracts teeth that are impacted, infected, or damaged by disease. They perform biopsies, bone grafts, sinus surgeries, implant surgeries, surgery to support orthodontic treatment, as well as preprosthetic surgery. The OMFS provides varying levels of anesthesia, including local, nitrous oxide, minimal and moderate sedation, and general anesthesia.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Embody Willamette Dental Group’s treatment philosophy, mission and values and ensure they are portrayed throughout the practice.

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, at the highest available scope of licensure per the applicable state’s Dental Practice Act.

  • Serve as a resource for other practitioners in the company regarding the management of medically complex and surgically complex patients.

  • Assist with coordinating multiple schedules during the course of the work day ensuring patients have appropriate access to care, that the patient’s experience is exceptional, and that tomorrow’s work is done today, when appropriate.

  • Ensure quality care and adherence to the company treatment philosophy: reviewing data from the dashboard, specialty referrals, EV Report and be counseled as needed.

  • Adheres to the criteria of the office strategic goals, the economic value report of their offices and themselves: Press Ganey, and access .

  • Embrace Press Ganey and patient transparency with the patient experience being foremost.

  • Obtain and maintain Nitrous Oxide credentials and/or other forms of sedation.

  • Strict adherence to OSHA and blood borne pathogens policies.

  • Follow the FDA and ALARA principle guidelines when taking intra-oral and panoramic radiographs.

  • Diagnose and treat dental issues related to disease, malformations and injuries and develop individualized treatment plans for such.

  • Strict adherence to Willamette Dental Group’s Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policy. This includes, but is not limited to the use of N95 respirators and other PPE as required by regulatory bodies and company policy.

Non-Essential Position Functions:

  • Provide mentoring and feedback to clinical and non-clinical staff as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Degree as a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), and/or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). Successful completion of a traditional pre doctoral dentistry program and valid licensure in the specific state(s) where practicing.

  • Successful completion of an accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency.

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

  • Licensed as a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).

  • Licensed as a Doctor of Medicine (MD), when applicable.

  • DEA registration.

  • Maintenance of BLS certification.

  • Actively seeking or has achieved board certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

  • At a minimum, will maintain state board’s equivalent of a minimal sedation permit. Will maintain appropriate certifications to support the provider’s anesthesia permit (ie, ACLS, PALS).

Knowledge of:

  • Evidence based dental practices.

  • AxiUm electronic records.

  • Fulfill all requirements to ensure proper electronic documentation for all care provided to patients.

  • Diagnostic terms.

  • Information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat and oral cavity anomalies.

  • Principles and processes for providing customer and optimal patient experience. This includes patient needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of patient satisfaction.

Skill in:

  • Extracting erupted and impacted teeth.

  • Development of differential diagnosis of oral pathology.

  • Performance of incisional and excisional biopsies of soft and hard tissue.

  • Management of orofacial infections.

  • Pre-prosthetic surgery.

  • Bone grafting, sinus lifts, and placement of dental implants.

  • Verbal and written communications.

Ability to:

  • Utilize evidence based dentistry to recognize, prevent, intercept and correctly identify appropriate treatment.

  • Operate a computer and a variety of software applications quickly and accurately.

  • Physically and visually perform surgical procedures.

  • Communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand.
