WHAT’S THE JOB?

Fire Camps are remote camps that require rapid mobilization of staff to get to site in a variety of different locations in Northern Ontario.

Fire Camp Workers may be designated as Housekeepers, Kitchen Support or Base Camp Services and are responsible for cleaning client rooms, cleaning/stocking kitchen areas, cleaning washrooms and setting up infrastructure depending on the role that is being fulfilled.

You must be comfortable working in a remote bush camp setting. Bush camps are often hours away from any town, with limited to no cell reception and Wi-Fi. Must be comfortable sleeping in a tent and living in the outdoors as accommodations can range from a lodge to a tent depending on the site.

Key responsibilities of Housekeepers include:

  • Cleaning washrooms, showers and common areas.

  • Cleaning floors by sweeping & mopping.

  • Gather and empty trash containers.

  • Clean windows, glass partitions and mirrors.

  • Making beds daily and changing linens.

  • Daily linen laundry.

Key responsibilities of Kitchen Support staff include:

  • Clean and maintain all kitchen areas of facilities as per cleaning schedules. This will include heavy equipment (hood and oven vents), dining area, floors, dish and cookware, and all areas of back of house operation.

  • Stock and replenish food service items such as cutlery, dishes, glasses, cups, and condiments during and after all meal periods.

  • Wash kitchen and service dishes.

  • Assist the First Cook with the unloading and storage of all supplies and groceries.

Key responsibilities of Base Camp Services workers include:

  • Setting Up/Dismantling mobile infrastructure.

  • Maintaining and monitoring fuel levels for generators.

  • Ensure and maintain safe operation of the camp.

  • Monitor portable water tanker levels.

  • Collect and dispose of garbage and recycling on site.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Current First Aid Level 1 certification is an asset.

  • Large scale camp work experience is an asset.

  • Valid class G Drivers License with relatively clean drivers abstract is an asset.

  • Be able to handle the following physical demands:

  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Climb ladders or stairs.

  • Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time.

  • Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands.

  • Perform work with arms at full length.

  • Work with arms above shoulder height.
