Ensuring Chart’s Success…

This exciting position will provide you with an opportunity to blend the engineering of automotive systems with the engineering of cryogenic systems.The Product Engineer serves as the technical manager for their respective product lines, and as such works directly with the manufacturing, design, quality, and sales teams. This role is responsible for ensuring product lines meet the financial, quality, training and sales goals, and serves as the technical point of contact for customers as well as the sales, engineering, marketing, and commercial teams. This position will reside in Theodore, AL.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Problem solving and support with Orca product line

  • Support sales and marketing efforts as an engineering resource to maximize sales/market share of products

  • Perform evaluations to support the sale of new Orca products including truck specification reviews and weight distributions

  • Define and aid in Customer and Tech Service training requirements

  • Lead value engineering efforts through design engineering and CI teams

  • Support investigation and provide engineering guidance for warranty claims

  • Lead product related CAPA efforts as appropriate

  • Component and part selection and validation

  • Development and execution of test plans

  • Research and investigation of code requirements

  • Generation and ongoing support of all product documentation, including bill of materials, manuals, and part documents

  • Development of end of line testing plan

  • Support creation of product documentation

  • Performing calculations to support the Orca product line including structural, weight distribution, fluid flow, and thermodynamic

  • Assisting with prototype builds

  • Providing SME support and feedback on NPD efforts

Your Education Should Be…

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or other engineering degree

  • Preferred: ASE Certified Mechanic

  • MS degree is a plus

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

Working Conditions

  • Office environment

  • Manufacturing environment including outdoor testing

  • Work related travel may be required (approx. 10% maximum)

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking

  • Lifting up to 30lbs

  • Frequent computer work

Work Hazards:

  • Production floor environment will involve possible exposure to materials with rough edges, temperature extremes, moving mechanical parts, occasional flying debris, chemical cleaning solvents and their odors.

  • Liquid nitrogen and liquid carbon dioxide testing

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • Preferred: 3-5 years of experience in automotive applications

  • Preferred: 3-5 years of experience with cryogenic applications

  • 3 years experience in design or product engineering or technical service

  • Interpretation of engineering/governmental code standards to ensure compliance

  • Preferred: Working knowledge of cryogenics and/or automotive technology

  • Experience with product testing

  • Proven ability to engage with customers in a professional and trustworthy manner

  • Proven ability to educate and explain product functionality, both the "how" and the "why"

  • Experience working in a self-directed role and comfortable making decisions independently

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Highly motivated self-starter and a team leader

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint

  • Preferred: proficient with Solidworks and/or AutoCAD
