McDermott Commissioning Lead (Onshore Landstation) in The Hague, Netherlands

Job Overview:

The Commissioning Lead (Onshore Landstation) is responsible to support the Commissioning Manager in the planning and execution of a safe and efficient Pre-commissioning, Commissioning, Start-up and Performance Testing of the facility to achieve the production and performance objectives and Company (MDR) contractual objectives. Develops with the Commissioning Manager and Electrical SME the electrical testing and energization plans and procedures for all electrical systems. They make sure to develop Safe Work Practice Procedures for all electrical maintenance activities while working collaboratively within the Project team and with Client to maintain positive relationships. Also, provides a back-up role to the Commissioning Manager and their absence. Supervises the implementation of the approved management and operational plan for the pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up of the plant through performance testing and plant acceptance. Defines the commissioning team activities based on the agreed project scope of work and assists in defining the workforce requirements of the Home office and Site Commissioning activities. Commissioning Lead (Onshore Landstation) is also responsible in the development of pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and project completion schedules and supervises its implementation. Lastly, the project is in the HVDC Market and the position will commence in The Hague office before transferring to Site at Büttel, Germany.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the implementation of activities related to the pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, operation and maintenance during the course of the project

  • Supervises and participates in the development of pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up procedures

  • Participates in the review of engineering documentation during Home office activities

  • Interfaces with Construction and the Client, as required

  • Supervises the activities of Sub-Contract, Supplier Servicemen and Client personnel assigned to work under his supervision until plant acceptance

  • Participates in the development of the training program for all employees under his supervision and for Client personnel

  • Interfaces with all local agencies, as needed, to facilitate all required approvals and in ensuring the smooth and the successful commissioning, start-up and operation of the facility

  • Liaise with the Systems Completion Manager for systemization of the facility and validation of the data in the completions database

  • Implements procedures to deliver the overall safety of the facility and its personnel

  • Provides input to the “lesson learned” database

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 10+ Yrs. in oil and gas with major contractor or consultant

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Preferably possess a B.S. degree in either electrical or mechanical engineering, or special education for electrical

  • Significant role in at least three (3) major projects in the oil and gas, chemical process or electric power industry demonstrating a technical broad knowledge of commissioning and start-up

  • Have over 5 years’ experience with HV/MV/LV equipment in the oil and gas, chemical process or electric power industry

  • Must have effective communication skills, able to establish confident relationships with discipline managers, technical engineers and non-engineers

  • Must have good presentation skills for meetings with Project Management and Client

  • Must have excellent computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF editor, and other engineering/completions software programs

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be adaptable to the needs of various discipline groups

  • Must have the ability to assess and communicate project requirements and expectations in a clearly defined, positive and productive manner

  • Capable of leading a commissioning project team

  • Willing and able to travel to construction sites and go on assignments to international sites

  • Proficient in English and conversant in German
