Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciencesof theMcGovern Medical SchoolatUTHealth Houstonhas extraordinary opportunities for forensic psychiatrists seeking to develop a career in inpatient psychiatry. This position will also be able to establish a new psychiatry forensic fellowship on behalf of UTHealth Houston. Opportunities are located at the new academic psychiatric hospital, part of theJohn S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, which will combine the most advanced patient care, research, and education in partnership withTexas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC)and the Texas Medical Center. The 253,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility includes 264 new inpatient beds, serving patients in all age groups.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The forensic psychiatrist will be responsible for the treatment and care of inpatient forensic patients, duties will include, but not be limited to: clinical assessments; medication management; documentation of progress notes; development of treatment, transition, and post-discharge plans; participation in competency evaluations and court testimony as needed; preparation and submission of case reports or summaries as requested by government and/or mental health agencies.

In addition, the forensic psychiatrist will participate in the supervision and education of medical students and trainees, and establish a new psychiatry forensic fellowship on behalf of UTHealth Houston

Qualifications:

  • Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License.

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in general psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry or have completed accredited training in these specialty and subspecialty areas in the United States.

Preferred:

  • Experience or interest in research and/or education.

Depending upon candidate’s qualifications and credentials, a faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor will be offered.
