McGovern Medical SchoolatUTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time, Assistant/Associate Professor, non-tenure clinical track position in theDepartment of Pediatrics,Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. The divisionprovides care for infants, children, and adolescents with all forms of kidney disease and high blood pressure and provides inpatient services and consultations for children atChildren’s Memorial Hermann Hospital,Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, and theUniversity of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Inpatient services include all dialysis modalities and CRRT to support a highly complex patient population including NICU, PICU, and CVICU. Ambulatory services at the main campus of theTexas Medical Centerinclude a dedicated pediatric hypertension clinic, general nephrology clinics, tuberous sclerosis clinic, and a fetal consultation clinic. In addition, the division has a dedicated onco-nephrology clinic at MD Anderson Cancer Center, general nephrology and hypertension clinics throughout the Houston metro area, with plans for additional satellite outreach clinics, and renal transplant clinics at the Memorial Hermann Hospital. Our chronic dialysis unit will be relocated to a new state-of-the-art, 11-station, dedicated pediatric dialysis unit housed in the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, with an expected start date of February 2024, and is supported by a dedicated team of nurses, child-life team, social worker, and renal dietitian. The new dialysis unit will support the growth of the ESRD population and the growth of the active pediatric renal transplant program at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The division has an active pediatric nephrology fellowship program with a long tradition of graduating future leaders in the field. The division is an active participant in CKiD, RAFT, NAPRTCS, PNRC, and IROC, with plans to join SCOPE.

Excellent teaching opportunities are available for medical students, residents, and fellows. The selected candidate willcontribute to the department’s mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other services.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The new faculty will join adynamic and diverse team of 6 Nephrologists and a Nurse Practitioner with various clinical and academic interests. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology & Hypertension is supported by dedicated pediatric nephrology and dialysis nurses, a full-time research coordinator, transplant coordinators, a social worker, a dietitian, and administrative staff. The selected candidate will provide direct patient care in the clinic and hospital setting, share call and in-service coverage, and participate in outreach clinics in satellite locations. Responsibilities include inpatient/consultation and outpatient services at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, with the possibility to expand services to additional future sites. The position will include responsibilities in the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital Dialysis Unit and the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows. The candidate should have an interest in academic achievement and is encouraged to conduct research and quality improvement projects in their area of interest, with opportunities to develop new programs.

Qualifications:

The selected candidate for the position must have an M.D. or D.O. degree and be board certified in Pediatrics and board eligible/certified in Pediatric Nephrology.
