Amentum Machinist in Texarkana, Texas

Job Description

The Machinist produces replacement parts and new parts in making repairs of metal parts of mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: interpreting written instructions and specifications, planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, setting up and operating standard machine tools. Fabricate parts for prototype equipment, working from drawings and written and/or verbal instructions. Interpret sketches and blueprints for a variety of machined parts and assemble prototype equipment.

Essential Responsibilities:

Shaping of metal parts to close tolerances, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machining. Responsible for the knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for this work; and fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment. Work with metal, fiberglass, composites, plastics, wood and various other materials. Apply paint or other protective coatings to equipment and assemblies. Perform basic layout using blueprints. Assist other shop employees and engineers in assembly of various types of jobs.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical warehouse environment with no unusual hazards, frequent lifting to 20-50 pounds, kneeling, standing, and walking, routinely sitting and constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

  • Procedure Compliance - Each employee must read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma/GED and a rounded training in machine-shop practice, usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

  • Operating knowledge of machining tools, skilled in setting up and running lathes and milling machines, machining all types of engineering materials such as aluminum, steels, brass, G-10 fiberglass, Delrin and most other plastics is required.

  • Must have a valid and current state driver’s license.

  • Must understand and be able to use Technical Manuals.

  • Must be able to complete paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs.

  • Ability to manipulate and use hand tools and hydraulic equipment.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Passing a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check is required.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check (NAC) within 60 days of hire if required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • Must be available for any shift. Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
