[**[GENERAL PURPOSE [[Assumes responsibility for the operation of heavy duty maintenance and construction equipment on public works construction, maintenance and demolition projects.

[**[SUPERVISION RECEIVED [[Works under the close supervision of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and/or Foreman.

[[SUPERVISION EXERCISED [[May occasionally supervise crew as needed or assigned.

[[ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES [[Presence in the workplace on a regular basis is required to accomplish the essential functions, regular attendance MUST be maintained.

[[Operates three or more of the following pieces of heavy duty equipment: trackhoe, motor grader, bull dozer, gradeall, front-end loader, haul-type truck or heavy duty dump of twenty (20) yard capacity or more, and other heavy duty construction, maintenance, and demolition equipment.

[[Operates equipment for the purpose of ditching, leveling, and smoothing to grade on maintenance and construction projects; hauling, dumping, and/or spreading of material.

[[Assigns and supervises the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers, on occasion, in routine maintenance and minor construction activities related to public works and utilities field operations.

[[Instructs and trains assigned workers in equipment used; regularly services equipment; reports repair needs.

[[Makes routine repair and adjustments on equipment used.

[[Performs strenuous manual labor, as necessary.

[[Pickup trash/debris and clean up City owned properties. [[Perform storm cleanup of trees, limbs, etc.

[[Inclement weather preparations.

[[PERIPHERAL DUTIES [[Performs all other functions as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Foreman.

[[MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS [[Education and Experience: [[(a) Five (5) years experience in the safe and efficient operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment. [[(b) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

[[Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: [[(a) Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance. [[(b) Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment. [[(c) Ability to maintain effective preventive maintenance programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. [[(d) Ability to learn to use survey equipment and read blueprints.
