The group includes Home Lending; Auto; Cards, Retail and Merchant Services; Personal Lending; Consumer Lending Control; and Consumer Lending Shared Services.

The Consumer Lending team partners with other businesses across Wells Fargo to create and deliver transformational experiences that help customers gain access to credit. The vision for the Consumer Lending business is to leverage technology and data to make it simple for customers to easily access credit when and where they need it. Consumer Lending serves customers across the country through our distribution network of more than 5,300 retail banking branches and Home Lending offices, as well as online and digital channels.

Responsible for implementing process and control functions that support the Personal Loan business, which includes but not limited:

  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring risk-based programs to identify, assess and mitigate any compliance and operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems or external events, while maintaining a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency.

  • Consulting with the business to assess issues, identifying root cause, developing controls and corrective action plans to mitigate risk and issue reoccurrence.

  • Providing operational risk and control expertise for projects and initiatives.

  • Evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems and internal controls; analyzing business and/or system changes to determine impact, identifies and assesses operational risk issues and assigns risk ratings consistent with established policy standards.

  • Providing frequent written and verbal communication to senior leaders to create awareness and understanding of the risks and controls pertaining to new business and change management initiatives. Providing transparency into identified risks and unfavorable ratings or barriers to new initiatives. Credibly challenging information provided to ensure all risks and controls are captured and clearly understood.

  • Completing proactive risk and control assessment and readiness activities.

  • Monitoring risk and performance measures in appropriate functional governance routines and escalating, as needed, into risk committee routines.

  • Ensuring business partners effectively understand and implement new regulations and policy requirements though participation in change management routines.

  • Provide subject matter expertise as needed, for enterprise testing, internal audits and external examinations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in risk management or 5+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience reviewing testing strategies and methodologies; evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, initiatives, products and internal controls; and identifying issues resulting from internal and/or external compliance examinations

  • Experience testing policy and procedures/control testing

  • Process design or improvement experience

  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner

  • Ability to identify and evaluate exposures and potential risks

  • Ability to identify risk factors and ensure enactment of appropriate controls

  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Knowledge and understanding of Shared Risk Platform (SHRP) such as reporting and issue management

  • Experience determining the root cause of identified issues

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Proven experience with control evaluation, design, and performance

  • Strong business control and operational risk experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of lending: regulations, compliance, policies, process, and procedures

  • Ability to successfully partner with Personal Lending management and Legal, Compliance and other risk areas to provide independent credible analyses and challenge practices and methodologies where necessary

  • Ability to manage large complex cross-matrix organization that includes multiple products, systems of record and support partners

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of banking products, processes and services

  • Experience with business process, risk and control documentation

  • Experience with resolving issues that arise from control gaps/deficiencies found within business processes

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and providing credible challenge in assessing the adequacy of business processes and controls

  • Ability to identify and evaluate trends, isolate root causes, and provide swift/thorough resolution

  • Experience in monitoring and validating operational risk arising from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events

  • Experience in developing reporting associated with risk programs

Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
