Description

The Amazon Intermodal (AZIM) team is seeking someone for the role of Manager – AZIM Operations Programs. The team has been experiencing significant growth with an expected 56% increase in volume Y/Y. The AZIM Operations Program Manager will contribute to the efficacy of team growth exceeding 40% in the coming year, drive a 30% efficiency gain. The Program Manager ensures the end to end operational execution of loads shipped on Amazon’s 1P IM network via coordination and communication with rail partners and other internal and external stakeholders. The role requires a dedication to drive Amazon Transportation network growth and facilitating planned cost margins, increasing network efficiency and overall network health.

The Operations Program Manager owns communication with rail and drayage partners, analyzes performance and drives operational compliance with AZIM program goals and identifies barriers to rail and drayage partner execution. This leader works closely with the AZIM Program Managers and Operations leaders to ensure that the actual execution of the AZIM Operation matches the planned impact. The person in this role must earn trust and partner across multiple business units at Amazon to align on prioritization, defect reduction, business operations, and team engagement. The Manager drives operational excellence and ensures the actual operational costs of the AZIM program via adherence to on-time pickup and delivery, dwell and delay management, storage, and waybilling impacts. The Manager contributes to operational and program understanding of complex supply chain impact of thousands of units moving through rail ramps, Amazon sites, and external shipper sites.

You will have an opportunity to be an expert and work with a group of talented program managers, product managers, research scientists, software developers, and business leaders to provide insights that shape our network for weeks and years to come. This role will be involved in all aspects of the IM business and requires a leader with learning agility and the desire to work cross functionally with both internal and external organizations.

Our vision remains to make Amazon’s intermodal program the default mode choice for shipments greater than 500 miles and a viable alternative on lanes less than 500 miles for both Amazon internal and external shippers. To do so, we need a rigorous 1P external product that can compete with 3P IMCs who have favorable rail rates from long running relationships with Class 1 railroads, spanning several decades.

• Coordinate and Communicate AZIM operational requirements and expectations with rail and drayage partners.

• Ensure detailed understanding of AZIM volume requirements, analysis of performance and liquidity gaps, safety metrics, and technical or other barriers to execution expectations.

• Identify, develop, manage and execute analyses to uncover areas of opportunity and present written business recommendations

• Design exception based reporting highlighting and analyzing outlier/ trends that drive performance and operational improvement, along with weekly reporting and taking actions to address newly found issues.

• Pull and manipulate large amounts of data to identify and mitigate defects through detailed analysis.

• Gain a deep understanding of various business lines and related processes, to understand long and short term needs to support business growth.

• Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration, and commitment across multiple teams and stakeholders.

• Manage full lifecycle of complex cross-functional programs with considerable impact across multiple organizations

• Work autonomously in an ambiguous environment, seeking to understand business problems, automation limitations, scaling factors and boundaries.

• Partner with customers, internal/external teams, engineering teams and research scientists to improve reporting and prioritizing projects

• Solve ambiguous problems and proactively identify and mitigate risks (before they become roadblocks)

• Work with program managers, business leaders and executive team to communicate and impact critical business initiatives.

The AZIM Operations Program Manager will have the opportunity to support and drive the expansion of a complex start-up type operation that is rapidly scaling to large impact across the Amazon Transportation network. Daily interaction with rail partners, drayage partners, coordination with internal and external program managers and AZIM Operations to ensure synchronization of requirements to capabilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • 5+ years of supply chain experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of driving process improvements experience

  • Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field
