MITRE’s Software Engineering Innovation Center is one of the government’s largest R&D resources dedicated entirely to software engineering; delivering a comprehensive spectrum of capabilities, spanning the full development lifecycle from prototyping (concept and user-centered design), through software architecture & modeling, agile development, testing and deployment, to software assessments (verification & validation). Based in our Tampa office this position will require on site work at MacDill AFB 3 + days per week.
We are looking for creative and experienced Software Engineers, with a passion to work on innovative, advanced approaches and technologies to help our nation solve its most critical challenges within one or more of the following domains:

Roles and Responsibilities:
Play a trusted technical leadership role in helping government sponsors apply modern software engineering methodologies and software development best practices to mission critical systems.
Provide deep subject matter expertise and/or lead software design and development efforts
Design, architect, prototype, and integrate software solutions that solve complex technical challenges
Work closely with the sponsor at the sponsor location to help guide the work, identify new areas or challenges for MITRE to assist with, and work with the greater MITRE team for reach back, research, and collaboration to further enable the sponsor’s ability to meet their software system goals and provide impact to the sponsor.
Evaluate Policies, Processes, and Standards to Define Interface Standards and Application Programming Interfaces for the sponsor
Evaluation of Vendor Capabilities and Provide Recommendations for Product Development
Provide Systems Engineering Support for Requirements, Requirements Traceability Matrix, Systems Engineering Plan
Support Engineering Meetings Across the sponsors, the Services, and the DoD for Collaborative Autonomy
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicable Bachelor’s degree in STEM major & 5+ years of related experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Must have an active Secret clearance for consideration.
Demonstrated success with Agile practices and frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban)
Proficiency using Cameo / MagicDraw, Doors , Draw.IO and similar packages.
Documented success applying DevSecOps concepts in both developing new systems and improving existing systems
Familiarity with multiple programming languages, such as Java, C/C++/Objective-C/C#, Kotlin, Python, Python3, Go, NodeJS, JavaScript, Ruby, HTML5, MySQL, MongoDB, GIT, including at least one front end framework (Angular/React/Vue)
Demonstrated success across the entire software lifecycle, from design/architecture to agile development, testing, continuous integration, deployment (CI/CD), and support
Design and Development of Enterprise Software Infrastructure to Include a DEVSECOPS Platform and Data Layer Implementation
Design and Development of Enterprise Communications Architecture for Unmanned Platforms

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in STEM major
Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and unmanned systems is desired.
Knowledge of autonomous systems and autonomy desired
integration/design of data and communication channels for autonomous systems
Design, Development, and Test of Collaborative Autonomy Software Applications
Design, Development, and Test of Machine Learning Operations Software Applications
Technical Direction Agent Expertise for Review of Software Architectures and Requirements
Capable of defining and leading projects or programs with experience in both task leadership and management
Demonstrated ability to establish a trusted business network and engage with project leaders in defining and shaping work that aligns within the division’s strategic direction
Ability to deliver thought leadership and partner across organizational boundaries
Technical stature that includes a track record of journal publications and conference presentations
Proven ability to develop software systems while taking on growing responsibility for analysis, design, implementation, and deployment tasks
Experience mentoring and leading technical teams in a distributed environment to develop and deliver both prototype and production software that spans the full tech stack, from the back-end to the front-end
Strong fundamental knowledge of computer science, especially algorithms and data structures germane to the development of high-quality, efficient software
Experience with building applications and deployment in scalable environment using Docker and Kubernetes
Track record of architecting, delivering, and operating mission critical, large scale software systems in production cloud (Azure, AWS) and on prem environments
Solid understanding and experience with operational Cyber concepts and objectives
An entrepreneurial spirit
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
