GKN Aerospace Quality Testing Lab Technician (Level II) in Tallassee, United States

Job Summary

. To perform mechanical, chemical, and physical testing associated with aerospace materials. Set up tests and report results. Catalog test data, generate lab and QA records in strict accordance with operating procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Calibrate or adjust equipment to ensure quality production, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, or ring gauges.

  • Collect hazardous materials by placing them in the appropriate container then giving it to the hazardous waste collector.

  • Collect hazardous or nonhazardous waste or scrap materials in correctly labeled barrels or other containers.

  • Confer with engineering personnel regarding details and implications of test procedures and results by bringing test results to engineer/supervisor.

  • Construct and maintain test instruments and devices for aircraft parts and systems, according to specifications.

  • Identify required specification data and test parameters, by setting up equipment to conform to these specifications.

  • Inspect and test raw materials and panels for quality and adherence by comparing to customer specifications.

  • Prepare hazardous or nonhazardous waste materials for disposal, recycling, or reuse by transferring to collection areas.

  • Prepare testing materials by reading and following work order instructions.

  • Protect samples and the lab technician by wearing protective gear (gloves, glasses, smocks, etc).

  • Record and interpret test data on parts, assemblies, and mechanisms by entering data in log book.

  • Verify test equipment is operating properly by comparing actual to required specifications.

  • Verify test procedures and specifications by matching the receiver to the material, then logging into the specific manufacturers program.

  • Fabricate test materials to be tested, using hand tools, power tools, and test instruments.

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Three to five years of experience in the field of composites and/or inspection of aerospace materials.

  • Proficiency with one of the following lab test methods: chemical, physical, or mechanical lab tests. Proficient with some conventional and specialized test equipment. Good communications and computer skills and experience working as a team member.
