POSITION OVERVIEW: The Forklift Mechanic will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and emergency repair of all forklifts at all TAS facilities. In addition, the Forklift Mechanic will assist other Maintenance Mechanics with the repairs of other equipment, such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc. This role is critical to our organization because. Whirlwind’s goal is to provide fabricated structures for families, congregations, and businesses, in the most efficient manner while maintaining a safe work environment. The role of the Forklift Technician is crucial to the overall manufacturing process of our products. Job Responsibilities * Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance of forklifts. * Repairs and maintains various types of forklift trucks including electric, gas-powered, and propane powered. * Tests forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly. * Schedules and performs routine maintenance for forklift trucks. Ensures batteries for electric forklift trucks are fully charged. * Interpret manufacturer's technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed. * Troubleshoot forklift problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions. * Able to diagnose and repair mast and attachment components. * Good working knowledge of brake systems and tire/wheel changes * Ability to work on LP, gas, and diesel systems. * Replace broken or defective parts from stock parts and/or order replacement parts for major repairs. * Reassemble forklifts and make all necessary adjustments for effective and safe operation. * Perform safety inspection of forklifts prior to being released back to the work floor. * Cleaning of equipment and other areas as required. * Ensure work area and methods used in carrying out job duties meet safety requirements. * Maintain an organized and neat work area. * Competent to complete legible service documents and logs for preventative maintenance tasks * Learn new technical information and techniques to stay current with changing technology. * Must be familiar with OSHA regulations regarding the operation of a forklift, and all other equipment. * Must possess the ability to be focused on observing proper operating procedures and safety practices. * Other duties as assigned by Whirlwind Steel Buildings. Job Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent. * Two or more years of experience in a related field, including maintenance of various lift trucks such as Hyster, Kalmar and Yale with lift ratings up to 16,000 lbs. and 60,000 lbs. * Manufacturing, automotive, military, or recent trade school graduates with applied skills. * Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and night shift if necessary. * Able to function well as a team member. * Have analytical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to function with little supervision. * Be reliable, responsible, and dependable while fulfilling obligations. * Good communication skills * Complete test and maintenance reports * Have working under OSHA regulations. * Able to work safely and follow company rules and procedures. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: * Work performed in a shop environment. * Exposed to any number of elements but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable. * Physical effort equal to frequent moving of up to 50lbs materials; * Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and reach; * The use of Safety Glasses is required; * The use of earplugs is recommended; and required at some areas. * Ability to stand up to 10 hours a day (with a lunch in between) and up to 6 days a week; * Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment. * Steel-toe boots required in Manufacturing Facility. Night Shift Schedule * Monday through Friday 4pm - 12:30am. * Job Type: Full-time. * Weekend as needed. * Shifts of 8 hours, but not limited to it.
