Archivist Supervisor II – Position Number 000229

Minimum Qualifications:

Six years of direct professional experience or a master’s degree in archives, records management, history, public history or library and information science.

At least two years of professional archival experience.

Preferences:

Certified Archivist.

Master’s degree in archives, records management or public history.

Graduate certificate in archives or records management as part of a completed public history or information science graduate degree.

Complete coursework or workshops in archives or records management outside of a completed master’s degree or certification.

At least two years’ experience in providing technical assistance to municipal, county or state government agencies regarding archival issues.

At least two years’ experience working in Florida government.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages the Bureau of Archives and Records Management's Archives Reference Services including Reference Room activities and staff’s public programs to encourage use of archival materials and to increase public access to these materials. Directs, supervises and evaluates activities and performance of employees. Guides and counsels staff in the handling of complex information requests.

Provides direct assistance to State Archives researchers in the identification and selection of desired archival documentation; use of catalogs, indexes and other finding aids; and use of online resources. Conducts research on written, telephone and in-person requests for records or information from State Archives collections and prepares responses to those requests.

Develops and provides group instruction to organizations and other potential State Archives users on the resources, services and procedure of the Archives.

Prepares reports and statistical summaries on work status, work statistics and accomplishments. Regularly informs supervisor of section accomplishments, projects, activities, problems and concerns. Immediately addresses and/or reports personnel issues as appropriate as required by department policy, rule or law.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of office computer software applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

Knowledge of Florida government, Florida history, Florida public records, and historical research techniques and trends.

Knowledge of professional archival and records management methods, standards, practices and automated tools.

Experience in and ability to provide archival reference services in a busy environment.

Ability to supervise and evaluate staff.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer service skills.
