Amazon Software Manager, Connectivity - Systems in Taipei, Taiwan

Description

The Device Software team at eero is looking for a software development manager to lead our automation and fleet health team located in Taipei. This team will be collaborating closely with our existing device software team. This role will be responsible for developing our automation infra, helping improve visibility into the release quality, automate fleet health, and build test coverage for the next generation of hardware. This team will consist of 6 - 8 SDEs who are proficient in python, Go programming, can review and automate fleet metrics.

Key job responsibilities

  • Hire, lead, and coach a team of high performing engineers tasked with improving eeroOS.

  • Empower the team to regularly deliver high impact customer features on tight timelines.

  • Build detailed schedules and technical requirements from high level product descriptions.

  • Communicate status in an understandable way to a wide range of audiences.

  • Estimate delivery dates with confidence intervals based on the measured team velocity, remaining work, and projected new work.

  • Identify, champion, and deliver the highest impact engineering investments that your team needs in order to continue to deliver in the long term.

  • Implement process improvements for both your own and surrounding teams.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to the team, including your own code contributions and meticulous code reviews in Go, C, and Python.

  • Analyze performance and stability data from our testing and production populations to catch regressions and validate new features.

  • Manage headcount projections, recruiting, and continuous performance evaluations.

  • Monitor, drive and facilitate individual growth of your team's individual contributors

  • Look at metrics driving fleet health and drive automation for generating fleet health reports and support alerting

A day in the life

eero is a small and lean team. This means you'll enjoy an outsized impact and the benefit of having many different responsibilities. All within a day you'll analyze stability of new features, run a standup to drive your team's deliverables, request reproduction of a bug from QA, coach an engineer in a one on one, review a technical spec with the team, perform a code review, phone screen a candidate, prioritize incoming CX tickets. This role has a little bit of everything which keeps it challenging and fun.

About the team

This role is to lead the automation and fleet health team which is a part of the broader device SW organisation. The device SW organization is responsible for all software that goes on eero hardware whether it be low level firmware to userspace applications. Our goal is to deliver the ultimate connectivity experience to our customers. We work closely with Customer Experience, Product, Cloud, QA, Hardware, Product Analytics, and Manufacturing Operations.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
