Fulltime Position for

Sat, Sun 7:00am-7:30pm

The Nativity House evening cook is responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast and lunch on Saturday, Sunday and dinner Wednesday-Sunday for our shelter guests. This position supervises and coordinates activities of volunteers engaged in serving, food preparation and cooking, dishwashing, and enforces our “Clean as you go” policy. The cook plans meals based on the incoming inventory each day and the food in the freezer/refrigerator to minimize waste and spoilage. The evening cook is responsible for ensuring that the volunteer groups who come in to cook dinner for our homeless guests know how to use our kitchen equipment correctly and assist them with any questions that they may have about preparing the food. They will ensure that volunteers leave the kitchen clean, make sure that all of the food is put away, wipe down serving and cutting counters including kitchen equipment, and sweep and mop the floor before they leave. They will be responsible for cooking the meal if a volunteer group is not scheduled or does not show up.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation, cooking and serving of all meals.

  • Responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of volunteers engaged in food prepartion, cooking and serving.

  • Enforces and follows our “Clean as you go” policy.

  • Cleans all kitchen equipment and recommends repair and service needs to the Operations Assistant.

  • Works with the kitchen team to effectively manage guest’s behavior and create a safe and welcoming environment.

  • Participates in training and staff meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED.

  • 1-year of experience as a cook.

  • Current Pierce County Food Handlers Card.

  • Ability to respond quickly to program changes.

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

  • Requires the full manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination and alertness to use mechanical equipment.

  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.

  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.

  • Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy. (Required to provide current driving abstract).

  • Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Culinary Arts Degree.

  • Professional cooking experience.
