SUNY Upstate Medical University Trades Generalist in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Will perform journeyman Electrician work and skilled and semi-skilled work in a combination of two other trades related to HVAC and Electronics in the repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities and equipment. Duties include, but not limited to: Will perform electrical maintenance on hospital and campus electrical systems and electrical utilization equipment. Installs new electrical systems as required. While performing these duties evaluate electrical systems for safety, efficiency, and compliance to applicable building codes. Will locate & determine electrical malfunction using various test instruments (i.e. ammeter, volt meter); repair or replace malfunctioning switches, elements and fuses, & defective wiring; install fixtures, motors, and other electrical equipment; inspect circuits & wiring/rewiring systems in accordance with NEC standards; plan layout & wiring installation; interpret, read & follow blueprint & other diagrams. Must demonstrate working knowledge of theory practice, techniques, applicable standards and regulation codes, and tools, materials, and equipment used in the assigned trades. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting. Ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms. Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Must be free of facial hair or beard that may interfere with the fit or seal of a mask respirator at the time of fit testing. A mask respirator must be worn in order to comply with State & Federal Safety Health Codes. Reassignment offers are contingent upon satisfactory evaluation from Employee Health Office. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of full-time experience under a skilled journeyman which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training gained by the completion of technical courses and a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis. Must also possess two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work in related trades (HVAC and Electronics) under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course or a combination of both.
