SUNY Upstate Medical University Secretary II in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary: The Secretary II will schedule and check patients in and out, answer incoming calls, make outgoing calls, obtaining prior authorizations as required, and medical records scanning. Assist with standardized patient check-in and

check-out procedures, including registration activities such as insurance verification and collect co-pays and initiate insurance carrier regulatory requirements. Obtain patient records/reports. Process billing work queues, monitor reports and trace missing diagnoses and charges. Use computer systems, CAIS, Epic, Word, Outlook, Chart Maxx, etc. Use all pertinent office equipment such as copiers, fax, shredders, scanners, etc. Assist with mail distribution and other tasks as assigned by leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years secretarial/clerical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required . Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc), and ability to multi-task and strong customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ambulatory patient care setting experience. Experience obtaining medical service authorizations, communicating with insurance carriers, or other support agencies preferred. Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, experience with Medical Data Base systems (Epic software) for patient registration and scheduling, excellent phone etiquette, experience with multiple provider scheduling and medical record management preferred.

Work Days:

Monday-Friday, Days, Hours adjust depending on Departmental needs.
