SUNY Upstate Medical University Research Support Specialist, Senior in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

An opening for a Senior Research Support Specialist has become available in the Viczian Lab. This group is interested in finding cures for childhood blindness, with an emphasis on neuro-vascular-related defects. To do this, they engage in a variety of cellular and molecular techniques. They are seeking a candidate, who is proactive, detail-oriented and who enjoys working independently within a collaborative group. The successful candidate’s job will include maintaining the mouse colony, organizing the lab, and utilizing molecular biological techniques. They will set up mouse breeding pairs, take tissue samples, and identify mice for experimental analysis. In addition, the person in this position will learn a variety of cellular biological techniques, including cryostat sectioning, immunostaining, performing microscopy/imaging and count cells for cellular analysis. They will attend weekly individual meetings with the Principal Investigator and department-wide meetings with the Center for Vision Research group. The lab is part of a department-wide team of collegial scientists and staff, who work well together and celebrate each other's successes. We are looking for an adaptive, yet kind, individual to be part of our inclusive team. A positive attitude and enthusiasm for science will be rewarded, as will those with strong written and verbal communication skills. Training and mentorship will be provided.
