SUNY Upstate Medical University Research Support Specialist, Senior in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, plans and performs experimental work to achieve project goals. Performs molecular, biochemical, cell biological approaches (qPCR, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, tissue culture, etc.) to obtain data relevant to project. Generates, analyzes, and reports research results to the PI. Responsible for the breeding, identification (genotyping), and accurate record keeping of the laboratory's mouse colony. Supports the preparation and submission of scientific publications and grant applications. Works collaboratively with other lab members to support the goals of the lab's projects. Mentors and trains junior members of the laboratory. The candidate will have the opportunity to be included in the lab's scientific publications with authorship assigned depending on the level of contribution. The candidate will join a vibrant and diverse community in the Center for Vision Research and will have the opportunity for scientific/professional development. The successful candidate is a self-starter with a keen eye for detail, capable of independent work in a supportive, team-oriented environment. The candidate should also have a strong interest in research and readiness to learn new techniques. The candidate should have willingness to assist the Principal Investigator/lab members and possess strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills. Salary will depend on the extent of prior experience working in a research laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Developmental Biology, Cell Biology or related discipline. At least 2 years of work experience in a basic science laboratory or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced or specialized training/experience in molecular biology or biochemistry. Experience working with mice.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday; 8:00 - 5:00; Some evenings and weekends may be required depending on experiments
