LOCATION/UNIT: Facilities and Operations - Syracuse

TITLE/SALARY GRAGE: Plant Utilities Assistant, SG-09

SALARY: $40,193 - (NOTE: current or reconstructed salary for State employees in accordance with NYS Audit and Control)

DURATION: Contingent Permanent

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assist in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and calibration of the mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, steam, and high temperature hot water generation and distribution systems, ventilation, air-conditioning, water supply, sanitary systems and electrical distribution in an institutional combined heat and power plant and building mechanical systems. Perform preventative maintenance on building systems.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Open Competitive: one year of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, HVAC, and/or auxiliary plant utilities equipment in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities.

OR Associate degree in HVAC / certificate or diploma from BOCES (minimum of 440 hours) OR

Completed a New York State Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program for stationary engineers, plant maintenance (plumber/steamfitter), HVAC Mechanic or plant maintenance (refrigeration/AC).

Preferred qualifications: Holding an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification, 2 or more years experience
