SUNY Upstate Medical University MRI Technologist in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Medical Radiographer-MRI. Read and interpret requests and instructions of physicians concerning MRI examination techniques. Determine body regions and projections which are to be undertaken, greets patients, explains procedures to patients and seeks to reassure anxious and distressed patients; guides and positions patients before and during examinations in order to obtain the required views. Operate MRI equipment by setting controls and making required adjustments using guidelines and standard procedures as directed by physicians, in order to procure the required images. Receive general technical supervision from Senior MRI Technologist including orientation to the facility and equipment, advice on procedures and spot-checks of overall performance to determine effectiveness. Other responsibilities include: Supervision of junior and student technologists. Quality control of MRI examinations to include proper positioning, technique factors, and appropriate use of resources.

Providing for orientation of new technologists and maintaining clinical competencies of staff. Advising and assisting staff technologists whenever the need arises (e.g., new routine, special views, uncooperative patients or dealing with family members as appropriate. Coordinating and directing patient flow to various scan rooms. Reviewing patient schedule and coordinating flow to achieve maximum efficiency. Must report all potential/current equipment malfunctions to the proper service people/supervisor. Work/train radiographic students in the use and maintenance of radiographic equipment. Must be able to deal efficiently, ethically and courteously with patients, personnel and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications:

AAS in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, NYS license/registration (Must obtain within 6 months of receiving limited permit) and ARRT (must obtain within 1 year of appointment), one year experience as a radiologic technologist, plus current CPR-BLS certification required. Registration certification for Contrast Injection required (must obtain within 3 months of appointment).

*Must have limited permit by time of appointment if NYS License/Registration hasn't be obtained yet.

*Candidates who possess an A.A.S. in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, NYS license or eligible, and no experience will be considered for appointment to an entry level (SL1) position.

Hours to be determined. Will work weekends and holidays on rotation. Depending on departmental needs, overtime may be required
