Description

We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a DevOps Engineer to join our team in the education industry located in New York. The primary role involves working with our digital team to enhance the web presence of our institution by assisting with on-premise and cloud containerized deployments. The successful applicant will collaborate with multiple teams, ensuring a stable and reliable web hosting environment for various websites.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with web development and marketing technology/platform teams to assist with on-premise and cloud containerized deployments

• Automate the implementation, testing, and deployment of products into a runtime environment in a reliable and efficient manner

• Work with central IT to ensure proper security, code review and best practice is followed

• Respond to break/fix incidents and provide support to the division, campus community, and external vendor partners

• Create process, best practice, and support documentation as required

• Conduct quality assurance tests on sites and systems in collaboration with web development team for functionality and accessibility

• Leverage skills in Python, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure DevOps, and Web Development to optimize operations

• Use DevOps (CI/CD) pipeline concepts and tools such as GitHub, Gitlab, Docker, and Jenkins

• Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Pulumi

• Manage source code using Git, including branching strategies, merging workflows, and code reviews for projects in Python, PHP, JavaScript, and SQL

• Audit site performance, monitor uptime, and prevent intrusion

• Troubleshoot web server connections and routing issues

• Utilize knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud hosting platforms

• Work with WordPress, Django, and identity providers, such as Azure Entra

• Communicate effectively and work well with others and independently as necessary

• Prioritize projects, evaluate requests, and offer solutions

Requirements • Proficiency in Python programming language is required

• Demonstrable experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)

• Knowledge of Azure DevOps is essential

• Experience in Web Development is required

• Must have a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field

• Proven experience in managing and maintaining large scale infrastructure

• Strong understanding of DevOps methodologies and principles

• Proven ability to solve complex problems with innovative and elegant solutions

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

• Strong understanding of security principles and how they apply to education environments

• Demonstrated excellence in time management and task prioritization

• Ability to work independently and within a team
