SUNY Upstate Medical University Dental Assistant in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Must possess and demonstrate working knowledge of specific techniques and sequences of steps used in performing dental treatment in all aspects of general and operative dental procedures; universal and safety precautions observed in the operation of x-ray equipment and the treatment of patients; handle dental instruments effectively; follow written and verbal instructions; must also demonstrate understanding of sterile instrument processing, including use of autoclave. Duties include, but not limited to, serving as chair side assistant to dental provider, handling and manipulating various dental instruments and pieces of apparatus as directed by the dental provider; greeting patients in a friendly and courteous manner; recording patient's vital signs and follow proper medical record documentation protocol; reviewing patient's consent for treatment to ensure appropriate signatures are obtained. Will also provide administrative support to the department (e.g. answering telephones, schedule patient appointments using Hospital computer information systems, etc.). Knowledge of medical/dental terminology and medical billing along with successful completion of an accredited Dental Assistant Program is strongly preferred. The ability to maintain patient confidentiality is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma; and either one year of experience in dental assisting or graduation from an accredited program in dental assisting.

Work Days:

Schedule based on a 40 hour work week. Monday-Friday Day Shift, 7:30am-4:00pm. Located at UHCC
