SUNY Upstate Medical University Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary: Review with the responsible attending anesthesiologist the pre anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient. Develop and carry out an anesthetic plan under the direction of the anesthesiologist. Provide continuous vigilant observation of patients, correcting abnormal patient responses and seeking consultation where appropriate. Complete an accurate and timely anesthetic record for inclusion in the patient's chart. Ensure patient stability and safe transfer to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit or ICU. Manage emergency situations, including initiating and participating in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Take appropriate precautions to minimize risks of infection. Maintain confidentiality of patient information. Supervise Paramedic students occasionally. Participate in department quality assessment, as well as committee work assigned by the Chair of Anesthesiology. The CRNA will be working in multiple locations to include; Adult and Pediatric Operating Rooms at University Hospital, Cancer Center, and several one day surgery centers affiliated with the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, licensed as a RN in New York State, a minimum of one (1) year of RN experience in an acute care setting, and the successful completion of both an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program and the national certification examination required. Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
