SUNY Upstate Medical University Administrative Assistant I in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Administrative Assistant I will be responsible for patient registration including check in, obtaining insurance cards, obtaining signatures on consent forms, answering phones, routing calls, accurately taking messages and forwarding on to the appropriate personnel. Mail and fax distribution, and other clerical duties as requested. New patient referrals, scheduling and rescheduling patient appointments, co-pay collection, scheduling ancillary testing, and obtaining insurance authorizations for testing ordered. Must be willing to learn the OR case scheduling in anticipation of future growth of the department, which includes coordination of provider schedules, obtaining insurance authorizations and assisting in completing pre-surgical paperwork.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree and one year of experience required, or three years of secretarial/administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent organizational skills, computer skills, and strong customer service skills required.

Experience with front desk reception, multi-line phone system, fax and scanning devices.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in specialty medical office front desk experience. Knowledge and use of EPIC electronic medical record system.

Experience with insurance authorization process for specialty services procedures and treatments.

Experience in registering patients and discharging patients and knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.

Work Days:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
