Southwestern Community College Surgical Technology Program Coordinator/Instructor Instructor in Sylva, North Carolina

Statement of Primary Purpose The Surgical Technology Program Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program. Act as program advocate and representative, modeling professional standards of behavior, ethics, communication, and teamwork to both internal and external stakeholders. This position will also be providing instruction in Surgical Technology.

This position is 9-month faculty plus 8-week summer session.

Classification Curriculum faculty, full-time, exempt.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. Ensure program compliance with all regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. 2. Provide instructional leadership maintaining a relevant, rigorous, and equitable program. 3. Develop, implement and administer program policies and procedures. 4. Monitor program evaluation systems and procedures. 5. Ensure all reporting to internal and external agencies is timely and accurate. 6. Design course offerings and schedules. 7. Develop and administer program budget needs and expenditures. 8. Identifies and procures appropriate technology, equipment and supplies for training. 9. Maintain effective working relationships with program advisory committee and clinical affiliates. 10. Recruit, orient, and mentor qualified instructors. 11. Maintain comprehensive student records. 12. Ensure all program publications are accurate, current and in compliance. 13. Maintain teaching course load in compliance with college and accreditation workload policy

Additional Duties and Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Education Associates Degree in Surgical Technology

Knowledge and Skills REQUIRED Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Have a minimum total of five years of current experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both within the past ten years. PREFERRED Have familiarity with Accreditation Review Council on Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (SRC/STSA) and Commission on Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) standards. Possess proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program planning.

Physical Demands Must be able to use and demonstrate surgical training equipment. Perform classroom instruction.

Licensing Requirement Current NC license in surgical technology Valid NC Drivers License

Working Conditions and Environment The program coordinator should pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional instruction and administrative capabilities.

Equipment Operation Able to operate and demonstrate all equipment required to perform the duties of a surgical technologist. Classroom instruction equipment (computer, white board, etc)
