Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, The Senior Systems Engineer is required to provide requirements, design, verification and validation support to the assigned project. The Senior Systems Engineer will apply their complete understanding of technical theories and concepts to provide solutions to the current phase of the project, taking cognizance of cost and schedule constraints whilst ensuring adherence to processes.

The Collins Aerospace Systems Engineering team is a strong contributor to the systems engineering effort for various projects throughout the product or system lifecycle, your new opportunity incorporates a multi-faceted opportunity to work in a team focused the in the areas of planning, user needs analysis and requirements definition, architecture and design definition and analysis, product design activities, system implementation and integration, test (verification and validation), and related activities.

Other duties include requirements to

  • Follow company procedures and customer requirements; using a systems engineering approach and techniques to plan and execute engineering activities to meet cost, quality and schedule objectives.

  • Perform systems analysis, system design activities and maintain design of the system.

  • Perform technical risk analysis as required.

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with systems, hardware and software design functions, other project team members, customers, sub-contractors and suppliers with a focus on identifying and mitigating risks and resolving technical problems that cross functional domain areas of hardware and software.

  • Produce timely project and support deliverables including technical documentation of high quality, sufficient to meet both project and future support needs while complying with both company and customer requirements.

  • Contribute to the development of new design approaches, techniques and technologies as well as process and quality improvements to support continual improvement.

    Skills and experience to support success in this position:

    Essential

  • Complete understanding and wide application of technical theories in systems engineering in deign, development of systems/products to meet requirements involving elements such as System Safety, Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Deplorability, Transportability, Human Factors, Security and Privacy.

  • Complete understanding of system integration, verification validation and providing technical solutions.

  • Ability to work independently on larger, moderately complex projects / assignments.

  • Self-directed with the ability to set objectives for oneself to meet the objectives or goals of projects and assignments.

  • An awareness of the implications failing to achieve results and moderate impact on the program schedules.

  • Ability to communicate with contacts typically within the Function / Product Line on matters that involve obtaining or providing information requiring some explanation or interpretation in order to reach agreement.

  • Demonstrates a focus on delivering the best possible outcome and attends to all details required to deliver the right solutions at the right time and commitments are met on schedule.

  • Proficiency in systems engineering, including in open systems architectures and secured cloud-based technologies.

  • Familiarity with environmental and EMI standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, DEF(AUST) 5168 or similar.

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Ability to achieve operational targets with significant impact on the Function’s/Product.

  • Ability to travel to support customer meetings in Australia (flexibility and notice will be given).

    Desirable

  • Prior experience with bid and pursuit work in an Australian government acquisition model.

  • Experience in Australian Defence industry projects.

  • Familiarity with engineering development in an agile and DEVSECOPS environment.

Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance; eligibility can be found at http://www.defence.gov.au/agsva . This position requires Australian Citizenship and eligibility to be certified compliant with US ITAR technology access requirements.
