Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager - Azure Front Door in Sydney, Australia

Are you a passionate engineer leader who likes to work on the Intelligent Edge Platform that powers application delivery, acceleration, security, load management and Internet routing for Microsoft, LinkedIN, Azure and many more? Do you have an eye for details and enjoy solving challenging distributed, scale and availability problems at Internet scale? The Azure Front Door (AFD) team is looking for an experienced engineering leader, with strong engineering background and technical depth, great curiosity, high enthusiasm, integrity, and results oriented. You will design and implement globally distributed, scalable and low latency services that offer application acceleration, and service protection to our critical crown jewels partners such as Office 365, Xbox, Azure services, LinkedIN and to Azure customers. You will collaborate closely within our team and other product teams at Microsoft to ensure we’re maximizing efficiency and deploying highly instrumented code to generate metrics across millions of requests/sec and records from thousands of servers located around the globe. You will embrace Open Source (both using and contributing), cross platform (Windows/Linux), and develop across languages (C/C++/C#).

Responsibilities

  • Innovate, drive vision and deliver on critical components for AFD

  • Enable high scale critical services with 100% SLA for Microsoft and beyond

  • Provide technical, end-to-end leadership for the team and charter

  • Mentor and coach other engineers to drive our collaborative and passionate team culture

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Demontrated experience in technical people leadership and mentorship of a team of software engineers and the ability to driveimpact on the overall technical strategy

  • Significant commercial experience in a software development environment

  • Ability to evolve and uplift engineering practices and culture to build a world-class engineering team

  • Solid understanding of cloud development principles and patterns and excellent communications skills and ability to work collaboratively across several teams

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to quickly adapt to new technology and go deep.

  • Great curiosity and willingness to question. High enthusiasm, integrity, ingenuity, results-orientation, self-motivation, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced environment.

  • Solve problems by always leading with deep passion and empathy for customers and

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Golang, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience, Or other object-oriented programming

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Drive for delivering high quality and scale services

  • Experience in managing services with high SLA requirements and live site criticality

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, including cross-group

  • Technical leadership experience in designing and running fault tolerant infrastructure services that run globally in a large scale

  • Experience in hiring and building a team

  • Experience in any of the following areas: large scale web applications, L7 data plane, distributed control plane, and asynchronous programming models
