The Company

KBR Australia has been engaged in working with Defence and Defence Industry for over 20 years and has core competencies in program and project management, engineering, asset management, integrated logistics support, procurement and training solutions, and provides in-depth expertise to a wide range of projects within the Defence sector.

The Role

This is an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Technical Writer to join a supportive team of professionals in a defence environment.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Analyse requirements, perform research and liaise directly with Systems Engineers, Team Leads, SME’s, Navy customers and Industry suppliers to develop technical documentation as required.

  • Use templates, tools and software supplied by the Client to produce technical documentation for electronic, electrical, mechanical, and combat/weapons equipment in accordance with the Client’s standards, style guidance and publication policies (e.g. DEF(AUST)5629B/C, S1000D)

  • Prepare graphics and illustrations to complete technical documentation as required.

  • Evaluate engineering drawings and other technical data as required and translate information into an understandable technical manual or document.

  • Produce technical manual updates or documents, using various sources of engineering, military, regulatory and manufacturer’s data.

  • Ensure developed maintenance baseline (inclusive of TMP, PMS and/or Service Requirements) aligns with approved OEM maintenance schedule and, most importantly, the maintenance philosophy is appropriate for Navy Environment.

  • Provide estimates, advice and needs analysis for documentation services for internal and external clients.

  • Research and build knowledge about products, services, technology, or concepts to be documented.

  • Planning, organising and controlling documentation activities in accordance with organisational plans and procedures.

  • Provide support to acquisition projects, transition from acquisition to sustainment and in the sustainment phase.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Technical trade experience in one or more specific disciplines e.g. mechanical, electrical etc.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing technical documentation in a Defence Environment

  • Demonstrated and highly developed written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Ability to utilise technical writing tools effectively to undertake documentation development.

  • Minimum baseline clearance with ability to upgrade to NV1 and AU working rights

Desirable:

  • Ability to operate in a structured S1000D writing environment.
