Actalent Controls Engineer in Swedesboro, New Jersey

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the electrical design and development engineering for all equipment, including engineering calculations, layouts and schematic diagrams utilizing our Computer Assisted Design (CAD) system along with PLC & HMI code. It is also responsible for customer technical support, as well as manufacturing support for sub-contracted and in-house manufactured control systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (including other duties as may be assigned)

  • Responsible for complete electrical design on assigned jobs (customer orders & development), including engineering calculations, schematic diagrams, PLC & HMI code, and customer operating manuals

  • Responsible for commercial parts and electrical enclosure specifications

  • Responsible for cost and quality improvement design on existing machines

  • Develop of electrical drawings, program PLC & HMI code, & manufacturing methods & practices

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing floor including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Answering questions and assisting in matters concerning wiring methods, routing of wires & conduits, coordination of the placement of electrical elements with mechanical engineering.

  • Testing machinery on manufacturing floor prior to shipment to customer.

  • Carefully evaluating and rendering decisions on improvements and changes recommended by manufacturing personnel.

  • Estimating costs and lead times on new designs.

  • Provide technical support to customers or to sales & service departments about equipment i.e., maximum speed or capacity, power requirements, volts, amps, etc.

  • Assist customers in solving problems related to existing or new equipment

  • Provide field service support on machinery when required through either commissioning or problem solving and when requested

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 3 years’ experience working with Rockwell Rslogix500 and RsLogix5000 platforms along with FactoryTalk View.

  • Working knowledge of commercial machinery control devices, i.e proximity switches, solenoid valves, transducers, switches, buttons & lamps, etc.

  • Sound understanding of principles and application of AC & DC motor control systems, mostly with VFDs.

  • Working knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal platform.

  • Knowledge of continuous web processing line control methods.
